We’re making a side table 🎉
@ceramics_by_jude and I are working on our first ceramic furniture piece together. Jude creates the most gorgeous platters, so she’s thrown a really large platter, trimmed a gallery and added scallops to that rim to create the top of the table!
I’ve coil-thrown the stem of the table, and finished it with a burnish. Burnishing clay essentially is a technique of compressing all the clay particles back into itself using rubber kidneys, metal spoons and stones, to compress it so much that you’re left with the smoothest clay, that is almost shiny and reflective! I tried capturing the before and after burnish finish in that last pic but definitely better understood when seen and felt IRL.
So excited to take you guys along the journey of making our first piece of ceramic furniture (and hopefully not our last 👀)

Wine bottle study ✏️ I’ve been dreaming of a ceramic wine bottle collection for a while now but have been humbled with throwing that narrow neck! But with a bit of repetition throwing (and some coil throwing) I finally got there 😌
