⚔️ Knights Tournament ⚔️
🏰 Berkeley Castle 🏰
⚔️ Sunday 3rd & Monday 4th May ⚔️
Did you know…
⚔️ Medieval tournaments were a mix of sport, military training, and spectacle
⚔️ Tournaments emerged in Europe around the 11th–12th centuries as events where knights could practice combat skills
⚔️ English kings sometimes restricted or banned tournaments because they distracted knights from royal service
⚔️ Despite the pageantry, tournaments were dangerous, causing injury and even death
⚔️ The Pope condemned tournaments in the 12th Century because people died in them, and the Church worried knights might die without confession, risking their souls
⚔️ Did you know that Maurice Berkeley, the eldest son of Maurice, Baron Berkeley, was accidently killed at a medieval knights tournament at Kenilworth Castle in 1279?
Come and see the action with the @warwick_warriors_d2k Sunday and Monday
