The client wanted a Moroccan style bathroom for the truck conversion, but traditional tadelakt or plaster finishes would have been totally impractical in a moving vehicle due to the weight and likelihood of cracking with movement. To achieve the look, I first sculpted the walls using polystyrene to create the soft organic shapes and curves, which also acts as an insulating layer. I then coated everything in Habitat Cast n Coat by @smoothon , to create a durable hard waterproof finish that could cope with moisture, vibration and everyday use inside the truck. For me it was about creating something long lasting and functional while still capturing the feel and aesthetic the client wanted. I’m fully aware these aren’t the most sustainable materials in the world, but within the constraints of a vehicle build it felt like the right balance between creativity, practicality and longevity. If you’re in the UK you can purchase Habitat from @bentleyadvanced What do you think of the result? #bentleysadvanced #smoothon #bathroominspo #vanconversion“

Inexpensive, everyday items can be repurposed as tools to create a variety of surface finishes on clay sculptures. Using a toothbrush to splatter clay slurry on your sculpture is a simple way to achieve a natural, uneven texture with a consistent feel. Want to learn more tips and techniques like this? You can create metal-effect pieces without going to the foundry. Cold casting uses real metal powder mixed into resin. Once polished and buffed, the bright metal surface is revealed, creating a convincing foundry-like finish. It’s a fast, cost-effective process, and by backing with foam, you can produce lightweight pieces ideal for installations, home décor, and props. #bentleyadvanced #coldcasting #propmaking #fabrication #mouldmakingtips #resintips #fabricationtips #practicalfx

The right tools make all the difference when creating realistic surface texture. Using a sponge and solvent, you can quickly build a skin-like finish on NSP clay, avoiding the need to add fine details one dot at a time. Want to learn more tips and techniques like this? Adding flocking, not just pigment, can really enhance the depth of your silicone prosthetics, making them feel more realistic. Pete uses this technique to create silicone prosthetics that break up the light passing through the silicone, creating more natural tone variation. Only a small amount is needed to subtly shift colour and avoid a flat finish. #bentleyadvanced #mouldmakingtips #mouldmaking #casting #prosthetics #practicalfx #makeupeffectstips #moulage peter_tindalls_creative_making

Creating monsters is one of Pete Tindall’s (peter_tindalls_creative_making) passions, and surface detail is key to achieving realism. Before moulding, applying solvent with a soft brush can gently refine your sculpt, soften transitions between elements, and bring everything together. The result is a clean surface ready for lifelike details like wrinkles, pores, and skin texture.
