Wayne State 🤘Despite the fact that it was opening weekend for the Detroit Tigers, faculty and students came out!! What an incredible welcome to one of our new favorite cities. We spent the last two days working with composition students, presenting to the music business class and giving an artist talk/performance for all. Our residency culminated in a concert with BF’s pianist(and WSU’s Choir Director;) @erika_tazawa Detroit, we will be back! #getbent #chambermusic #saxophone #percussion #piano

Experience a powerful program featuring winners of Bent Frequency’s 5th annual Underscore competition and Steve Reich’s iconic Music for 18 Musicians. Underscore is BF’s open call for scores, receiving over 2,500 submissions since 2021. This year, we are thrilled to present Ella Kaale’s perfect lovers, Ilana Waniuk’s Arcana Minor,  and João Pedro Oliveria’s Improvisation on a Poem by Augusto de Campos. We also celebrate the 50th anniversary of Music for 18 Musicians and Steve Reich’s 90th birthday. Presented in collaboration with Atlanta Contemporary Music Collective, Chamber Cartel, ensemble vim, and smol ensemble, this minimalist masterpiece promises a stunning sonic experience and a fitting season finale. Ticket RSVP’s are free and are limited to 4 tickets per person. We are thrilled to offer this event free of charge for all, but welcome donations of any amount (fully tax deductible!). Your donation does more than support music, it enables us to create events that are accessible to everyone, regardless of financial circumstances. Donations for this event will benefit all ensembles performing. Tickets may be reserved here or at link in bio: /en-US/ticketing/music-for-18-and-bent-frequencys-underscore-concert #getbent

Bent Frequency is excited to announce the winners of 2025-2026 Underscore–a call for scores: Ella Kaale - perfect lovers Ilana Waniuk - Arcana Minor João Pedro Oliveira - “Improvisation on a Poem by Augusto de Campos” We were thrilled with the overwhelmingly positive response for this year’s Underscore. Bent Frequency received numerous applications of creative compositions from all over the world, representing an impressive array of styles. The review of applications was a rigorous and thorough one undertaken by Bent Frequency and our two guest composers, Nomi Epstein and Tim Feeney. It is indeed inspiring to be reminded of the wealth of musical creativity and diversity reflected in the submissions received for this call. These winning works will be presented in concert at Kopleff Recital Hall in Atlanta on Sunday, May 3, 2026. The winning composers will be provided with a travel stipend to assist with expenses to attend the concert. More information about the composers can be found here: /winners Bent Frequency would also like to express our sincerest gratitude to our guest judges, Nomi and Tim. Underscore would not have been possible without their expertise, time, and thoughtfulness. We would also like to thank the Georgia Council for the Arts, The City of Atlanta Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs, The Fulton County Arts Council, Amphion Foundation, Alice M. Ditson Fund, Copland Fund, and Georgia State University School of Music. Without their generous support of contemporary music, we would not be able to present Underscore. #getbent
