XY.SYSTEM w/ @materia_adapt DEVELOPMENT PROCESS The evolution of the project through research, prototypes and structural testing. Developed together with @materia_adapt and @benjometry , the shoe explores how additive manufacturing can redefine accessibility in footwear. From early design studies to functional prototypes, every phase focuses on simplifying wearability while maintaining stability and lightness. The low profile structure, adaptive heel and ergonomic instep are the result of an iterative process where geometry, function and comfort are continuously refined. Produced through 3D resin printing, the form emerges layer by layer where digital design becomes physical structure. Collaboration With @materia_adapt for the @paralympics Opening Ceremony, produced by @xy.system . The shoe’s heel features a built-in shoe horn mechanism for easy entry, important for differently abled users. Laces allow adjustability and provide lockdown, essential for the acrobatic performances by the talented artists who wore them. The barefoot style sole improves stability, and features a lug pattern inspired by Milanese street tiles, layered with gecko toe inspired microtextures computationally designed for additional grip. The New World Grade Low Top 00 barefoot last developed by @jaredmaxfiorovich and @uababluba via @future_footwear_dpt was used for this project, and an improved grading system in @sidefxhoudini allows greater consistency of performance accross sizes defined by a spreadsheet. For the opening ceremony of the Paralympic Games, @materia_adapt created this 3D resin printed shoe, developed in collaboration with @benjometry and produced through @xy.system ’s latest technologies. It is a low profile shoe, intuitive and extremely easy to wear, carefully designed in every detail to improve accessibility for people with motor impairments and disabilities. The structure and silhouette feature a low sole that ensures both stability and lightness. The heel is engineered to flex during step in, naturally supporting the foot as it slides into place. The fit becomes even more adaptive thanks to the ergonomic cut across the instep. The lacing system combines laces and elastic elements with a stopper lock that simplifies closure and secures the foot more effectively, ensuring stability and comfort. The entire structure, created through 3D resin printing, is born from a process in which resin cures one layer at a time. Light defines the geometry as the form gradually emerges. What begins as liquid transforms into a precise solid structure, guided by code and digital control. The result is an ultra lightweight and breathable shoe, engineered to deliver performance, comfort, and reliability, even in a symbolic and dynamic moment such as the opening ceremony. #Paralympics #MilanoCortina2026 #OpeningCeremony
