We have a running gag at home where Anthia asks me “why are you so happy?” (despite us being stressed or lacking sleep) and I respond with “because I choose to be”. She knows my response every time, but asks it anyway and it serves as a reminder to get us through the long tiring days.
But choosing to focus on pockets of happiness in your situation isn’t the same as having fun. Most people already understand that “fun takes practice” – you need to invest in developing a certain level of proficiency in anything to then be free enough to have fun. But you can also achieve a high level of proficiency and NOT be having fun. And I think that’s worth reframing. Embrace playfulness and remember to practice having fun.

Meimei is 18 now and graduates soon. Here’s one of her literary pieces about mom and their mother-daughter relationship. I love it so here it is: The best I can do.

You’ll never know when a panic button might come in handy. This was one of those days. Thank the gods.
Did a little industry sharing at Berklee 🤯 The Business of Professional Music class equips students for the myriad ways one can pursue a career in music business, and this clip was part of a larger prompt to discuss working WITH an MI brand (endorsements, collabs) vs. working FOR an MI brand (as a career).
I shared a little bit about the musician’s edge working in the Musical Instruments (MI) industry and maybe it feels like a silly thing to say - that our value as musicians is that we know our gear - but even when I was starting out, I doubted my own credibility for not having a “formal” marketing background. Turns out the time you spend developing your musical craft can be valuable off stage too.
This is a long one, but if you made it to the end, you win a kopi sesh with me where I will happily continue to yap your head off on this topic.
Special thanks to Prof. @tv_hall for having us and @theanimaldrummerofficial for setting this up!

Both Muay Thai athletes came in wanting a program that supports their performance in the ring while continuing to build strength and get into the best shape of their lives. Safe to say we’ve got that covered 🫡
Keep working hard guys!
