Yesterday’s RBC Brooklyn Half Marathon was bigger than a finish time for me. It was the first race since my knee accident in 2024 where I truly showed up ready to race again. Not cautiously. Not just hoping to get through it. But willing to trust my body. Trust the training. And test myself again. And I think a lot of runners understand this feeling. Coming back from injury is not only physical. It changes the way you think. The way you push. The way you trust yourself when things start getting uncomfortable. You start questioning things you never questioned before. That is why rebuilding matters so much. Not rushing back. Not forcing confidence. Building it piece by piece. Run by run. Workout by workout. Proof by proof. Yesterday reminded me that progress is not always about “getting back” to who you were. Sometimes it is about becoming smarter, more patient, and more connected to your body than before. If you are in a rebuilding season right now, keep going. The goal is not to feel fearless overnight. The goal is to slowly trust yourself again. Comfort rarely feels like quitting. It feels like being reasonable. Like waiting for a better time. Like telling yourself you’ll get back to it soon. Most progress doesn’t stall because the plan stopped working. It stalls when consistency starts asking for more than feels easy. Real change usually shows up after the phase where it feels repetitive, where motivation is quiet, and comfort starts making very good arguments. Nothing is wrong with you.
