The scene of some scenes, they have roasts, they have drinks, and they have some amazing garden-side audio snacks of the low slung, jazzy and soulful sunshine type from yours truly. NEXT SUNDAY. 11 years ago on Good Friday it all began. The first ever broadcast of our ‘little’ radio station. Happy 11th birthday to 1BTN. @1btnradio 🥳 We’ve been through some things ey?!! Good Friday 2015 it all began, this little radio station based out of Brighton started doing what it does/did/will do! At that point it was only online and despite its name (1BrightonFM) it didn’t broadcast on FM until 2 years later. If memory serves me correctly that first tune on FM played by Josh Hall was Kamasi Washington’s “Truth”, and what an epic 11 minutes that was. I designed this very very meagre flyer for the FM launch in 2017 seen above. Somehow it’s still there, as other radio stations come and go. Now with a roster from all over the world, it’s festival (will it, won’t, it who the fuck knows), its We Out Here collabs, it’s many events, it’s amazing new listening bar @onair_1btn , it’s somehow weathered literally a million storms yet still stands. Hats off to Mickey Dukes for somehow having the tenacity to still be there and still doing what it does. My first ever show wasn’t until June of 2015, big thanks to Balearic Mike and Ben Monk for going to play at Electric Elephant and letting me cover, but I feel like I’ve been there for most of the way. I even remember committee meeting fights where we fought for the 1BTN name to ‘de-localise’ it back then. Oh what fun those committee meetings were 🫣. Here’s to hoping that this weekends celebrations are a big success. And I can’t wait to be back in Blighty for some live broadcasting. My one true love. Big shout out to Mickey, Leggy, Steve, every poor sod that’s ever been involved and indeed to everyone who will still come forward and try. Big up.
