What a great MLK Day, even with the cold weather, A few of our beloved pastors and men came together for coffee, encouragement, and community as we celebrated the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
We walked away encouraged and united in Christ, through reflection, meaningful conversation, and shared purpose.
Thank God for a church that truly values diversity and unity.
Thank you, Pastor John @johnsiebeling and Leslie Siebeling, for your vision.
And thank you to Life Church @thelifechurchmemphis for creating space where we can continue to build a house that looks like heaven.
I’ve always tried to “not bother” people.
I called my distance maturity.
I hid it behind lines like “they’re probably too busy” or “I don’t want to be a burden.”
But if I’m honest, it wasn’t wisdom.
It was insecurity.
A broken attachment.
A quiet belief that I was supposed to figure everything out alone.
That isn’t how God made me.
That isn’t how we’re designed to live.
I’m still unlearning it.
Still practicing asking.
Still letting people in.
I’m allowed to need others.
My son hit double digits today.
Maverick, if you ever read this (maybe once your prefrontal cortex is fully developed and you decide Instagram is worth your time 😂), I want you to know how incredibly proud I am of you—and how much I love getting to be your dad.
You are my first child. That means your mom and I had no idea what we were doing when God brought you into our home. In many ways, we were all figuring it out together. You’ve watched me and your mom grow up while we’ve watched you grow up.
You are bold, sensitive, funny, caring, kind, smart, respectful, curious, and handsome. You’re the best big brother your sister could ask for—and she’s lucky to have you as her friend.
I can’t wait to see the man you become and the family you will one day lead. I look forward to the future and all the adventures we’ll have together.
I love you, Mav
