New in FORBES! The Maxine Shaw Effect has been in the works for a while and we are so excited and proud to see it finally come to life! Thank you
@Forbes for the support.
For years, we knew anecdotally that the character of Maxine Shaw from ‘Living Single’ had a meaningful impact on real people. Everyone from Stacey Abrams to Ayanna Pressley to lawyers, teachers, judges, and others have told our co-founder
@ErikaAlexanderTheGreat that they went to law school or college or became a leader because of her character.
This anecdotal evidence was striking, but we decided to make it even more powerful by backing it up with data. We partnered with the show’s creator
@TheYvetteLeeBowser and
@missrepresentation and commissioned a data-driven research study to prove the impact of Maxine Shaw and to prove that “Representation Matters.”
Then we thought, “How do we use this compelling data to make a lasting impact?” So we partnered again with
@TheYvetteLeeBowser , and also with the incredibly talented curriculum designer extraordinaire
@EricaBuddington and her company
@LangstonLeague , and we developed an innovative curriculum for middle school and high school students with best-in-class pedagogy, focused on teaching leadership and communication skills, instilling self-confidence and self-empowerment, and providing critical thinking activities about potential career pathways. In short, we are “Building Leaders of Tomorrow.”
With this curriculum, Color Farm is empowering and igniting community groups by using pop culture and mainstream storytelling to make education more accessible and engaging, reaching young learners at a time when it is becoming increasingly difficult to break through all of the noise in young peoples’ lives.
We’re kicking off our first two partnerships to help bring the curriculum to students, teachers and parents across the country. We’re proud to be partnered with
@Microsoft and
@ReconstructionUS .
