To the stranger that saved my life 💛 Because we’ll never get to thank the incredible family who donated their baby’s umbilical cord (the gift that saved Florence’s life), we’ll spend the rest of our lives making sure others know just how powerful, and how simple, it can be to join the stem cell register. Although Florence’s transplant came from a newborn baby’s umbilical cord, only a small number of transplants happen this way (therefore only a handful of hospitals are able to collect the cords). Most stem cell transplants actually come from adult donors: who usually donate through a process similar to giving blood, or in around 1 in 10 cases, through a short procedure using their bone marrow. Both are straightforward and either could make you the stranger who saves someone else’s life. We are so proud to work in partnership with Anthony Nolan to deliver our FAB People Project, and we would love to come to you to talk to young people aged 16 and above about the incredible difference they can make. Our main focus is on stem cell donation, but we also cover organ donation and giving blood. Three things that every young person should know about. Three things that could save someone's life. We genuinely believe that one of the biggest reasons more people don't take these steps is simply because nobody has ever told them how easy it is. How straightforward it is to sign up. How little it takes to give someone a chance they wouldn't otherwise have. We have already visited many secondary schools locally and beyond, and time and again, once they understand it, they want to be part of it. Really honoured to have been invited to speak today at an education day for allied healthcare professionals at Great Ormond Street Hospital, focused on bone marrow transplants and sharing the family perspective of what it is really like when your child goes through transplant. It was incredibly special to share Florence’s story from diagnosis to now, talking honestly about the challenges, the impact on family life, the things that supported us most and the things that could make experiences even better for future families. Without her bone marrow transplant, my daughter wouldn’t be here, so any opportunity to talk to or support the incredible professionals involved will always be something I’m deeply grateful for. So many amazing healthcare professionals play such a huge role in a child’s transplant journey, but often do not get to see the full story once families move on through different stages of treatment. Being able to bring all of those parts together and share our experiences felt really important. The session taking place at Great Ormond Street felt like a real full circle moment. Florence received her lung transplant there, something she ultimately needed because of complications from her bone marrow transplant, so returning there to speak about her experiences felt incredibly emotional and very special. Thank you so much to everyone who listened, asked such thoughtful questions and gave such lovely feedback. A really proud day 🧡

Hi everyone 🧡 We want to make sure as many people as possible know about what @henryoscarmoores is doing right now for @bemorefabccc . He is currently in America taking on an unbelievable challenge. Running a marathon in every state. So far, he has completed 13 marathons in just 14 days. It is hard to even take that in. This is not just running. It is constant travel, very little sleep, moving from place to place, and being away from home for over 50 days. All to support children and families facing cancer. We are incredibly proud of him. Henry raised so much for the charity last year, and once again he is pushing himself to the absolute limit for others. @henryoscarmoores is at it again… and he's taken things to a whole new level. Last year, Henry walked from Manchester to Ibiza in a pair of flip flops for Bemorefab Children's Cancer Charity, raising nearly £70,000 including gift aid. An absolutely extraordinary effort that so many of you got behind. This year? He's completing a marathon in every single one of the 50 states of America!! He has already started. In his first 7 days he has completed a marathon in New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. Seven states. Seven marathons. One week. Next up, Ohio! We are so incredibly proud of Henry. He is a machine, and every single step he takes means the world to families going through childhood cancer.
