“Oh, the things we get to do.” I’m so grateful that my podcast
@wakenbakewithbemo was nominated and ultimately won the title of Best Morning Show in the DMV. Some of the people new to me may not even know that this show has been in production for 6 years. However the show is titled and branded, this accolade is not something of my own making. I want to take this moment to thank some critical folks in the success of this show.
First and foremost, the Lady of the House
@maniii.j 6 years, we created a show modeled off the basic tenet of our relationship, and now that thing is considered the Best of the DMV. Y’all never see her on the show, but trust me, this show would have no foundation and no purpose without her.
I wanna shout out the Wake-n-Bake-with-BeMo-nites. Y’all are more than listeners, you are my community. I’ve kept you company on early mornings with your kids or your inevitable drive to that job or loudly on that tour bus to let these white folks know but you’ve also been with me in my most scared, most humble, and sometimes most lonely self. Add on top of that, there isn’t a fundraiser we can hit or a new blueprint we can’t build.
Shoutout to the Washington Informer.
@washinformer When we wanted to start this adventure, I asked if we would have the support of a pristine legacy institution like the Washington Informer. My guy
@lafayette4dc has held me down even when I didn’t want it.
Word to sister
@imkayla_ithink for singing the Wake N Bake With BeMo theme song on a video during the pandemic that acts as the vocal connection to
Word to
@cauzndefx , who then took that video, turned it into a sample, made a song, and then illustrated our brand.
Shoutout to the Paul Robeson family for setting the precedent of being popular and politically dangerous.
Shoutout to Black folks for making a culture rich enough to build in.
And last and most least, I wanna thank me. The hardest part of this show is consistency and knowing when to step away. This was never meant to be a 104-episode-a-year show. We operate in seasons, and when our season returns, we will continue to produce a show we can be proud of. Not a show that people can easily accept.
