My heart is full of joy this week. I spent the weekend with one of my favourite humans (she’s in the first photo, a woman very close to my heart!) and a beautiful group of people singing, eating walking, talking, sharing and listening at the @bellahardy Spring Sing in my beautiful home village of Edale. I got to call in at the General Store, a shop that sells everything you could possibly need, including these Edale magnets which I love to make and am really chuffed that people like to buy-such a nice feeling to think they adorn peoples fridges around the country!
Then back to Yorkshire and more singing last night with the fabulous @poolbridgefarm choir, and this morning, my local train station has installed a community art project….
Community art and singing feels so good for my soul..
Is anyone else feeling the joy of May?

Hello friends
If you’re looking to connect with myself and my music, please head to my members site on Patreon, The Bella Hardy Folk House. You can join for free. (patreon.com/bellahardy). Or, for a monthly email update, join my mailing list (link on bellahardy.com).
I’m taking a break, potentially a permanent one, from social media.
There are so many things I love on here. So much funny. So much inspiration. So much Muppets. I love the Muppets. I’ve been guided to some of my new favourite poets, new favourite artists doing amazing things. But for me as an artist, the pressure to turn-out on social media in a certain way feels too great. And the addictive quality of the platforms is too much. Overall, I find it damaging to my mental health and quality of life. Asking you to ‘follow’ me, encouraging you to be here, and feeding the idea that in using social media you are supporting me… it feels hypocritical.
I’m not suggesting the internet is all bad. I just hope there is a better way to find connection and community online. I’m trying to find a way that I, as an artist and one-woman show, might find more managable. More enjoyable. Less problematic. Less ruled by the whim of an algorhithm.
I’m a folk singer. Folk songs are the songs of the people. I sing historic songs of people feeling controlled and manipulate by those with wealth and power. I feel increasingly controlled and manipulated by those with wealth and power; these goliath businesses that are ‘social media’.
I do not want to be conned into spending my one wild and precious life worrying about my social media output.
Thank you. I appreciate your support, always. I hope to see you soon.
For now, I’m off to make music. And watch The Muppets.
Love
Bella x
We gather. We let the songs lead.
Folk music lives in community; in moments where everyone belongs.
We don’t come here to impress. We come to remember.
✨ Come and sing (and play and dance) with us. Book this year's Edale residencies by the end of this week for your early bird discount!

We had such a great time at Dublin TradFest at the weekend ❤️. Thank you to everyone who came out to Pepper Canister Church. You made it feel very, very special.
I premiered two new songs 🥳 and they're good. If I do say so myself. The biggest 🙌 to @dannytryani on guitar who put in so much work and brought the new stuff to life.
You're listening to Three Black Feathers, which was our closing number.
Lots of love to you @tradfest_dublin . Dublin - I'll try not to leave it ten years until the next time!

In fact, life in general rarely goes according to plan. Thank goodness.

Our residentials are spaces for calm, joy, and connection. Soft mornings in the woods, songs shared under the sky, and evenings full of laughter and harmony. Early bird spots are open until the end of January, come sing with us.

I love creating vocal harmony. In our workshops, we explore voice, story, and harmony, all in a welcoming space. If you’ve ever wanted to sing freely and joyfully, this is your moment.

This is my favourite photo of me performing, and it's an early and a personal one; it was taken by my sister Beth, at Beautiful Days festival in 2008, the first year I really did festivals as a solo artist.
Music connects us through time and memory. I'm so looking forward to getting back to festivals with some new songs.
The song is Sylvie Sovay, my rewriting of the traditional ballad Sovay Sovay. You can find it on my album 'In the Shadow of Mountains'.
Folk music has always been part of my life, even before I knew it as ‘folk’. It was just music to me, and community, and to be honest, always will be. It holds stories, memories, quiet moments, and celebration. Every day I’m grateful to share these songs, and to invite others into their own musical journey.
I run monthly workshops in Edale, Sheffield, and Hathersage, and residential musical retreats in Edale. Check out DarkPeakArts.com x
This song is The Carol of the Field Mice, from Kenneth Graham's 'The Wind in the Willows'. It can be found on my Christmas album Bright Morning Star.
