去年我们在奥克兰举办了一场以「离散酷儿」为主题的华语酷儿短片展。今年继续与 @beijingqueer 合作，把最新一届北京酷儿影展其中的两部纪录长片带到惠灵顿&基督城。
这也是我们第一次在奥克兰之外的城市主办活动，期待和两个城市的小伙伴们多多认识～
The Chinese-language Queer Film Festival is coming to Wellington and Christchurch!
Last September, we hosted ‘Queering the Chinese Diaspora: Sino Queer Short Films Screening’ in Auckland, in collaboration with @beijingqueer . This year, we are bringing two documentary feature films from the latest Beijing Queer Film Festival to Aotearoa.
This is also our first time hosting an event outside Tāmaki. We are really looking forward to meeting you!

Call for Entries — Love Queer Cinema Week 2026
Submissions are now open.
As a platform that has long engaged with diverse gender expressions and marginal experiences, we continue to invite works emerging from different contexts. Across shifting times and circulation conditions, images are continually viewed, remembered, and reinterpreted.
This year, we are particularly interested in works that engage with memory of the body, histories and futures, as well as reflections on technology and artificial intelligence. Within a rapidly changing technological landscape, we turn to individual experiences and embodied perspectives, attending to forms of feeling and storytelling that resist easy standardization, and exploring possibilities beyond established cinematic languages.
We welcome submissions of shorts, features, and experimental works. In addition, we are open to oral history videos and related materials, some of which will be selected for presentation in future programs.
We look forward to stories being seen, shared, and connected through ongoing exchanges.

Following the founding of the Hong Kong Lesbian and Gay Film Festival, queer film festivals have proliferated in Asia. They played a vital role in promoting queer films and raising LGBTQIA+ visibility across the Chinese-speaking world. At the same time, Chinese-language queer films have travelled widely in the world and circulated within global diasporic communities. Queer film festivals provide a critical locus for theorising queerness, cinema, and cultural politics. The Chinese cases, however, remain largely underexamined compared with other locations in the global LGBTQIA+ film festival circuit.
To address the gap, this special issue of Chinese Independent Cinema Observer maps Chinese queer film festivals and theorises their significance. We ask: How do we understand the development of Chinese queer film festivals amid changing socio-political conditions, infrastructures, and transnational networks? What conceptual tools can we come up with to analyse these festivals beyond identity politics, celebratory narratives, or Western festival models? How do these festivals contribute to the development of queer theory, visual culture, and activist practices?
We welcome contributions from a range of voices-including scholars, curators, filmmakers, and artist-activists-to explore queer film festivals across China and the broader diasporic communities.
Submissions can take various forms, including but not limited to academic essays, festival reviews, critical reflections, filmmaker interviews, director notes and reflections on creative practice.

从 2023 年到 2025 年，赖宇晴的作品——《两个太阳》《爱是一本书》《潮汐低语》——几乎与北京酷儿影展共同前行。在刚刚结束的第 18 届北京酷儿影展上，《潮汐低语》迎来了它的中国首映。观众动容于这无比私人却凝聚着强大情感的酷儿电影，以及她诚挚的映后分享。她始终重视社群的连接与彼此支持，将电影创作视为与酷儿社群同行的实践。我们深知赖宇晴导演的创作在亚洲酷儿电影中占据的重要地位，也正因如此，她的离去才更加让所有人惋惜。

Over the past two days, we have received with great sadness the news of the passing of director Lai Yuqing.
From 2023 to 2025, Lai Yuqing’s works—Two Suns, Love Is a Book, and Whisperings of the Moon—moved almost in parallel with the Beijing Queer Film Festival. At the recently concluded 18th Beijing Queer Film Festival, Whisperings of the Moon had its China premiere. Audiences were deeply moved by this intensely personal yet emotionally powerful queer film, as well as by her sincere reflections during the post-screening discussion. She consistently valued community connection and mutual support, viewing filmmaking as a practice of walking together with the queer community. We have always recognized the important place her work holds within Asian queer cinema, and for this reason, her passing is all the more painful and regrettable for everyone.

爱酷放映的两部女导演执导的纪录片《#两个妈妈》及《新月一章》都迎来了众多影迷的关注。
The two documentaries directed by female filmmakers, #TwoMoms and New Moon Chapter One have garnered much attention from movie enthusiasts.
《#两个妈妈》聚焦日本4对拉拉各自面临的生育与养育心经。导演长村聪子长期献身帮助LGBTQ+社群获取辅助生育相关资讯。努力在自己的能力范围内让社群伙伴相互支持产生连结。她意识到仅仅将行动局限在社群内是远远不够的。多元家庭和多样的幸福的标准需要全社会的理解与支持。于是她开始了《#两个妈妈》的拍摄。该片在日本成功上映两周，对同性婚姻合法化、辅助生育合法化等议题的讨论产生了潜移默化的影响。
#TwoMoms focuses on the experiences of four lesbian couples in Japan as they navigate the challenges of reproduction and child-rearing. Director Satoru Nagamura has long dedicated herself to helping the LGBTQ+ community access information related to assisted reproduction. She has worked within her capacity to foster mutual support and connection among community members. However, she realized that limiting her efforts to the community alone was not enough. The understanding and support of diverse families and varying standards of happiness need to be embraced by society as a whole. This realization led her to begin the production of #TwoMoms. The film was successfully screened in Japan for two weeks, subtly influencing discussions on topics such as the legalization of same-sex marriage and assisted reproduction.
而周日在歌德学院放映的《新月一章》的导演李新月则把摄影机对准了自己和身边人。而这种自拍又充满了对自我与时代的反思。这一章是导演李新月不满30年生命的一章，也是组成当代中国个体情感历史的一章。
Screened at the Goethe-Institut on Sunday,New Moon Chapter One, directed by Li Xinyue, turned the camera on herself and those around her. This self-filming is filled with reflections on both the self and the times. This chapter represents a segment of Li Xinyue's life before the age of 30 and also forms a part of contemporary China's emotional history.
