There's no such thing as beer styles.
That's right. Well, Dann from @beerofsmod thinks it is – and he makes a pretty compelling case for it while brewing some of the best and most unique beers in the UK.
Learn more in this week's video, a 40-minute epic on what we consider to be one of the most important and unusual breweries in the UK.
Clamp’s back!
Our hazy fruity IPA at 5.5%, back in time for the weekend.
Pictured next to its namesake on top of one of our fermenters. I never realised our names are etched into the top of our tanks before… kind of cool, no?!
Hang on to your Tirolerhut, as we’ve got ANOTHER new pro-tier Patreon subscriber to announce! Please wish the warmest of welcomes to @beerofsmod . Thanks to their support our magazine becomes more sustainable as we work our hardest to bring you the best food and drink journalism we possibly can.

New IPA for sunshiny days.
NZ hopped with Nelson & Nectaron, this is a pale hazy 5% drinking beer. Named for our peculiar, scruffy, mad-but-special part of the city. Wrekka Road!
Happy (or Hoppy?) Friday! We have collaborated with @beerofsmod for Sheffield Beer Week 2026. For 2026, Sheffield Beer Week @sheffbeerweek will celebrate the city’s sonic and synth musical heritage under the banner ‘Sheffield Synth City’. Our collaboration is a beautiful Franconia inspired pils called Franken Pils! We did the can illustration too! It’s alive!!!! #imonster #saintmarsofthedesert #sheffieldbeerweek #sheffieldsynthcity
Wowee!
Thank you all for drinking our beers, and rating our beers, and giving us 14(!) Gold Medals in the untapped community awards for England!

OH! And see you next weekend for SMOD opening, & some fresh new beers!
We’re getting there!
We’ve been working hard in the brewery and the taproom… (and also having fun time off).
But we’re almost ready to reopen for a fab 2026:
March 13th is SMOD reopening day!
We’ll post more info on what to expect soon, in the way of beers and other excitement, but in the meantime you can mark your calendars and we’ll be open Fri and Sat 2-8 from that date for the foreseeable future…
One thing to note: to make life simpler on our busy opening weekend, we aren’t taking table reservations for 13-14th. After that however, feel free to drop us a line if us like us to save seats for you at a specific time.
Cheers everyone, we genuinely can’t wait to see you all and get some fresh SMODdy beers to you!
Here it is, our once-a-year Christmas selfie!!
It’s been a good year in the brewery, and in the taproom. We’ve managed to get some really good beer out into the world, we’ve made new friends and welcomed so many people back to SMOD again & again. As usual, we’re somewhat astonished by the amount of love and support you all pour in our direction, and we couldn’t be more thankful. Because if you didn’t, we couldn’t do this any more! Every one of you in your interactions with our brewery keep this ramshackle boat afloat.
(2nd shot with Grimbold for the Grimbold fans!)
Grisette is here! A beautiful, spritzy pale beer brewed with Euro yeast & French hops in the vague style of northern French/southern Belgian beers drunk by “grisettes”, working class women of similar area in the vaguely 1800s time who wore grey skirts and presumably welcomed the opportunity to have a nice beer during their day. That’s about the extent of the historical provenance. But who cares?! It’s a lovely euro hoppy spicy beer perfect for a drink whether you be a grey-skirted working woman or perhaps a denim-bottomed working woman or even man! It’s 6.8%, and we’re drinking it. Cheers! Launching in the taproom this weekend, online already.
We’re back!
Thanks for bearing with us the last week while we went on our hols.
Webshop is back open now, with a brand new beer, our last release before Christmas. (More info on that to follow next week).
The taproom will be open this weekend, Friday and Saturday 2-8pm, with oodles of cans, bottles and fun. Come and see us!
