We’re starting the year with a bang *clock itttt*. We’re shooting a film for our aunties, grandmas and for us: Mama’s Gold.
Counterpoints have kindly part funded the film but we need a bit more help to make Mama’s Gold come to life, so my incredible producer
@justhajer___ and I are currently crowdfunding. Every little bit helps, LINK IN BIO.
More about the film:
Had this idea for years after hearing stories growing up about how gold shifted from adornment to survival for refugee families.
Today, that continuity is under threat. Refugees are increasingly having so-called “non-sentimental” valuables confiscated at borders, despite the fact that these objects often carry the weight of entire family histories.
Mama’s Gold offers a counter-narrative. It shows gold not as luxury, but as evidence of lived histories, especially women’s histories — and explores how younger generations adapt these traditions in new cultural landscapes like London.
