We’re starting the year with a bang *clock itttt*. We’re shooting a film for our aunties, grandmas and for us: Mama’s Gold. Counterpoints have kindly part funded the film but we need a bit more help to make Mama’s Gold come to life, so my incredible producer @justhajer___ and I are currently crowdfunding. Every little bit helps, LINK IN BIO. More about the film: Had this idea for years after hearing stories growing up about how gold shifted from adornment to survival for refugee families. Today, that continuity is under threat. Refugees are increasingly having so-called “non-sentimental” valuables confiscated at borders, despite the fact that these objects often carry the weight of entire family histories. Mama’s Gold offers a counter-narrative. It shows gold not as luxury, but as evidence of lived histories, especially women’s histories — and explores how younger generations adapt these traditions in new cultural landscapes like London.

‘Compliance’ for @stecyhelena “‘Compliance’ explores the complex journey of immigration, marked by trials and tribulations many hear about but few truly understand. We arrive in lands that were never ours, facing a culture that often seeks to diminish our identities. As Jomo Kenyatta wisely observed, ‘when Europeans came to Africa, they taught us to pray with our eyes closed. When we opened them, our land was gone.’ This fashion film was inspired by my immigration journey and the experiences of those around me, whether directly linked to migration or the identity struggles that come with being disconnected from our land and its cultural practices. This erasure extends beyond land—it reaches into our cultural clothing traditions. As we attempt to assimilate into a society that often judges us, we are subtly discouraged from showcasing the vibrant garments that express our heritage. This is not merely about fashion; it is about identity and the fear of being further marginalized.“ Creative direction: @stecyhelena Assistant: @iiashantii Digital Photography: @stecyhelena Film photography: @bediahh Score: @anuuu.oluwa Stylist: @stecyhelena @iiashantii Hairstylist: @iiashantii @stecyhelena Models: @zachat.a @0_0dd1 and Nicole
