This #PrideMonth is a call to get organised in a union 💪
Our Big Gay Survey last year showed that there’s still so much to tackle in the creative industries for LGBT+ workers, particularly for trans & non-binary workers. Halfway into 2025, we know there are huge concerns from members across the creative industries about their workplaces, especially since the recent Supreme Court ruling.
It’s by working together in the @bectuunion sector of @prospectunion that we can fight for the most inclusive, fair, and equitable workplaces possible, whether that’s in film, theatre, fashion, broadcasting, live events, or the BBC.
Members are already getting involved with their branch committees or with the LGBT+ Committee. That’s why we’re proud to be union, not just in #pridemonth but across the whole year 💪

A massive thank you to the delegates at @bectuunion sector conference for supporting our motions! It was the first time the LGBT+ committee could attend conference and it was so heartening that there was so much support & solidarity across the sector 💛
Our motion on trans awareness training in Bectu was passed! We also had a composite emergency motion on support for trans Bectu members following the Supreme Court ruling, (written with Channel 4 Branch, @bectucostumebranch , @bectuartdepartment , BBC Technology Branch, @bectuarttechnicians ) - the motion passed too🏳️⚧️🥳
We’ll announce more, as actions from the motions move forwards 💪

The creative industries need to change! We know that the more workers that join & get active in our union, the more chance we have of making workplaces - from film sets to music festivals - places where everyone can be themselves, respected, welcomed, and included 💪

It’s almost Bectu sector conference! The LGBT+ Committee is taking a motion to conference this year; this is the first time equality committees can submit motions to conference, following a rule change in 2023. And we’d love your support!

We looked at the stats recently and were shocked to discover how many workers tragically die at work, as a result of poor Health & Safety
Every year more people are killed at work than in wars. Most don’t die of mystery ailments, or in tragic “accidents”. They die because an employer decided their safety just wasn’t that important a priority. International Workers Memorial Day (IWMD) 28 April commemorates those workers.

New guidance for reps just dropped 📬
The new guide, published by Prospect Union (of which Bectu is a sector), is about supporting trans and non-binary members 🏳️⚧️
Reps can access the guidance and members can get in touch with their branch rep for support 🩵🩷🤍
Trans rights is a trade union issue 💪
The Bectu LGBT+ Committee will be back at @londontranspride this July alongside our parent union Prospect - we hope Prospect and Bectu members will join us there 📢🏳️⚧️
