What are your goals for cold weather training ? Let’s break it down by temperature (Fahrenheit), & check out my #snowflake rating: 🄶 🄶 🄶 -0° F & below : only if you have to. This is just dumb weather to train in. šŸŒ”ļø Literally about 100 degrees off your body temp. This is serious cold. Who even lives here? 🄶 🄶 - 0° Fahrenheit to 10°: quick bursts of work on specific tasks, then back into a heated space. You’re going to be dressed with so many layers that limit proper mechanics, so gain in skill will be minimal. Great weather to test gear, ammo, dexterity, and mental #tenacity. Frequent rests indoors let your hands warm up to ensure you’re not getting frostbite. šŸŒ”ļø If you have never tried to go out in weather this cold, you’re not very hardy. šŸ˜‚ 🄶 10°-20° F : still alternating short bits of work and warming yourself up in a heated space. You can generally work without a glove on your dominant hand for much longer than single digit temps. Fewer layers needed than single digit temps means you might actually get in movement and stay warm enough to get a good training session in. šŸŒ”ļø This isn’t truly ā€œcoldā€ to someone from the north. Cold is when your snot freezes inside your nose when you sniff… That’s -5° to -10° F, so toughen up! ā„ļøā„ļøā„ļø 20°-30° F : movement is your friend. Design tasks to keep your body moving and warm. If you do some dynamic dry fire drills before you head out, you’ll stay warm longer. keep your hat on even if you get warm. šŸŒ”ļø it’s barely freezing, why are you hunkered down inside? ā„ļøā„ļø 30°-40° : You can do basically the same things you’d do when it’s warm outside. wool socks, a base layer, and thin gloves will make you a lot more comfortable. You’ll probably be able to get rid of your gloves after 10 minutes of warming up . šŸŒ”ļøThere’s freezing children in the north who would give their spare mittens to have weather this warm. ā„ļø 40°+ : this is the snowflake rating. šŸŒ”ļø Your soft, go outside. N.B. Go buy good merino wool and you’ll be warmer! #laugh, remember that most of this doesn’t apply to shotgun unless you’re shooting a box-fed, in which case you obviously have no dexterity to begin with.

IPSC Shotgun World Shoot recap: šŸŒŽ šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø USA had a lot of podium finishes. I’m proud of our entire #teamUSA and the work it took to get everyone there, with our own ammo. I’m grateful to @winchesterammunition for help with my ammo that arrived in Thailand over the summer - it was immensely comforting to know I had what I needed to compete. #šŸ’Ŗ And thank you to Mr. Somchai for staying at the airport hotel until 2am the night we arrived to make sure I got it. #😃 I’m so thankful for every sponsor that played a role in my #training and travel. It’s a big investment to go that far for so long, and every bit of help mattered to me. #ā¤ļø While I personally had a bumpy match, I was penalty- free until our last stage (30 total stages over 5 days). I’m proud of our Lady Standard Team for earning #gold with just three competitors. I saw everyone have ups and downs in this match - I’m thankful my downs were just mental and not gear related. The heat was insane in Thailand, much hotter than it felt there in 2022 during pistol worlds. #🄵 I’m very happy to have spent time with the #IPSC community I’ve gotten to know so well. There are #friends around the world I can always count on, and vice versa, and that’s a strong community. #IYKYK #šŸ‡¦šŸ‡¹ #šŸ‡«šŸ‡· #šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø #😶 In addition to having #Austrian , #danish, #Swedish and #French #AmericanIndian heritage… I’m also half #Polish. So I really enjoyed shooting with the four ladies from #Poland that were in our squad! @kobieta_beretta @shooting_panda @alciaalutka @_sa_r_na_ I’ll post more videos and commentary soon, but my body hit reset with 12 hours of sleep yesterday (first time I’ve slept that long since before I went to Russia in 2017), and with 11 days to Christmas, it’s full steam ahead! #makeyourmistakesfearlessly #therewillbesleepingenoughinthegrave

18 hours of driving, 8 hours of shooting, a little sleep, and a LOT of electrolytes! Satisfied that my start to the year of @ipscworld shotgun world-shoot prep began strong with a division win in Standard. John Morgan put on another great match for @theuspsa and we managed to get 10 stages and a lunch break in by 4pm! Great practice for Greece! Squadded with 3/4 of the USA Lady’s Open team, some senior open division men, and I was the lonely Standard competitor with my 9 rounds to start stage plans with. I’ve been really busy with rifle qualifiers and #work , and so this win was fresh off some patterning work and a lot of practice loading, but barely time to practice. I wanted a good baseline for feedback on what I’ve been doing right in the gym. ( #goals ) And as always, the @winchesterrepeatingarms #SX4 ran all the @winchesterammunition #AAs I fed it! @brileymfg chokes were the bomb on my buckshot stages. This is a good feeling as I tweak training plans for the next 4 months. #teamUSA

Stop scrolling and read this… it is not enough to simply have a concealed carry. You need to become informed about the laws that apply to you. You need to have proper training. You also need to have a plan. Read the rest at the link in my story. #roadtrip #ccw #concealedcarry

@arenatrainingfacility ’s shoot house is a blast! While I was the first shooter in my squad, I didn’t have anyone else’s stage plan to gauge things off, but seeing on the #Instagrams that I had the same stage plan pretty much as @kylelitzie was a confidence boost in my stage assessment abilities. #legit #fun #confidence #makeyourmistakesfearlessly @winchesterammunition @winchestershootingsports @wileyx @magpul @stagarms @primaryarms_optics @americantrigger @cerakote @ultradyneusa @theuspsa @ipscworld

First qualifier for @ipscworld is in the books. Had some good stages, a couple that were learning experiencesā€¦šŸ˜‚ But I’m positioned 3rd of the women in the running for the lady’s team the the #USA. Mostly I’m just proud of not letting the last time I shot on this range in so much water 13 years ago dampen my spirits. We had a great squad with a lot of experience that was great to be part of. The match director built interesting and fun stages (your work and communication was great Bob!) and @arenatrainingfacility was an amazing host - cabins on sight and they brought in dinner at night so we didn’t have to leave the sight. Looking forward to the next one later in summer. #makeyourmistakesfearlessly #work

One of the best parts of the #shootingsports is sharing it with others. We’ve been waiting for the right time to get Cassy to a local match with us and yesterday fell into place! If you’re looking to take someone to their very first official match, absolutely take them to a #steelchallenge match! (Or any steel match of similar format.) 🤘You can tell people that it’s simole to go to a competition and overcome the nerves of doing something new in front of strangers, but it’s a whole other thing for them to experience it. #TeamWork #familytime #sundayfunday

Spent a few days sharing this thing I love…we even had a little fun working on a video to make @hans_8541 laugh. Tennis and the lingo for movement and positioning and mechanics is eerily similar to movement for shooting. #work #workhard #laughharder #USMCfamily
