We’re really looking forward to welcoming awesome experimental composer-songwriter @clairerousay to @theatticleeds in April. Claire’s 2025 album A Little Death (@thrilljockey ) is a total winner, gently flowing found sounds and field recordings are joined by gorgeous studio embellishment. It’s diy-stately. Joining us in Leeds is Wild Rani (@beck____________ ), the alias of Rebecca Mahay, a synth n vocals performer embracing glitchy electronica and more. A treat, and a great double bill. This is a seated show, and we’ve sold half the tickets so no snoozin’. w/ @brudpresents & @qujunktions

Rebecca Mahay & Russell Walker ‘Have You Ever Seen Me In The Spring?’ out now on @dylan_nyoukis Chocolate Monk “Russell Walker and Rebecca Mahay weirdo concrete spoken word pieces pulled from the confusing emotional wreckage of a previous era. The piece holds up a funhouse mirror to self-important monologues and self-depreciating goof while touching on alienation and existential themes.” Photos from recent East Anglia tour supporting Duvel Mortgage (Bohman Brothers and Sophie Sleigh-Johnson).

Adventure post. I recently had the honour of sitting next to Chris Watson on many long car rides around the French Pyrenees recording the sounds of deer and owls. Chris has worked with David Attenborough on many wildlife series as well as being a founding member of Cabaret Voltaire who are playing some shows at the moment to celebrate 50 years albeit sadly without Richard H Kirk. During this week with our group led by Chris I opened up to nature in a way I haven’t before. To do this during such turbulent times felt very strange and disconcerting. Then it felt more important than ever to reach for connection and to appreciate this special planet we call home. To have spent time with someone who has spent long weeks on both the North and South poles has been an important lesson in itself. The alienation. Extremes. Our need for connection, sunlight, loved ones. An adventurer who has seen and experienced things I can only imagine. During my last full day, after nearly 2 weeks in the Pyrenees, a small group of us visited a cave in Niaux. I have never experienced such existential dread and mystery. Genuinely felt I had gone back thousands of years to see cave paintings that were 16,000 years old and made by people like us. These paintings are mainly of bison but also horses and deer. Crevices are used to create dimensions in the paintings so they shape shift with light. Similar paintings exist in caves across Europe and into Russia. The cave we visited was 2km deep but we went 800m inside. For these people to light their way to make these paintings is a bit of a mystery. This must have been incredibly important. Sacred. And more paintings were added over thousands of years. Some of the ‘rooms’ had chambers that were 80 metres high which allowed for some serious audio reverberation. Sadly no photos allowed. I am still shaken and in awe of this experience. Wanted to share for anyone in need of a little distraction at this time. We don’t actually know everything. There is still mystery and magic to be experienced for ourselves. This can be such a tonic in these jaded and dystopian times. Deep respect to the heads that got my back. I’m still here. B x @camp_fr

Tix link in biog. THE BOHMAN BROTHERS. At the head of the family dinner table sit patriarchs of preposterousness. Serving experimental buffets of sound since '84. Adam sits in his brother's lap, while Jonathan reaches around A's midrift to manipulate the closely mic'd cutlery. J being taller than A, this gives the appearance that A's limbs are longer than expected. J's right arm, like a car park barrier springing from under A's armpit, brandishes a knife that freely butters the table with a smear of found sound. J's left arm, craning from A's shoulder like an oil field pumpjack, forks their improv for accumulated clutter and pulls it apart into segmented portions. All the while, word salad protrudes from A's mouth to be picked out by J's hungry gnashers and masticated into a hash of meaningful tidbits. We suggest TFEH's audience help yrselves to any crumbs that end up on the floor. The Three Second Rule can be extended to at least thirty mins at Fruitmarket, and these leftovers are as delectable as they are nutritious. WILD RANI. Yr hosts at TFEH apologise for having assigned dinner duties along traditional gender lines. Thankfully Sister Becky Mahay was suitably disgusted & refused to spend the expected hours in the kitchen. She will make her soup before yr eyes. A famous & hearty Brummy broth more recently exported to warm the Leeds underground, B's recipe is timeless & cannot be faulted, but it never tastes the same twice: Heat a cast iron industrial strength pan on a middling heat & sizzle a drone until brown. Add gloopy stock sourced from the bones of yesteryear's cracked electronics then bring to the boil. The stew should soon be distinctly it's own flavour & yet unrecognisable. Season with speckles of poetry detailing mundanities & everyday horrors then serve lukewarm in a cassette case. Is it stinging your eyes a wee bit? Not to worry. B's projected visual garnish will bring relief to yr peepers. OFF BRAND. Firas is a brother to all & Ali is the only living member of his family who has never divorced, but the TFEH house band appear to have drank themselves under the dinner table. SUN 26TH JAN 2025. Doors= 8pm. Cost= £10. Fruitmarket, EH1 1DF.

Documentation of such a special night with @tyvek_official in town and honorary guest @dj_travella_mr_mixondo plus very sweet performances from Naycha Somko @naycha.somko and Ashtray Navigations @odubhshlaine Community, real life events, and shared spaces seem to hold increasingly important meaning. Lovely sound in the venue also, thanks to James Mazur & also Macca at the Fox & Newt for helping me get this show together. Lessons learned about the effort involved in putting on and playing a show but no regrets. Time to focus on solo work and a few Wild Rani shows starting to creep in, see link in bio. Posted my 2021 release on Cafe OTO’s TakuRoku label on my bandcamp as well. Thank you @astralsocialclub for another great gig together, it’s always fun and something new each time. Have added our sold out release on Chocolate Monk to my bandcamp :) Footage of us by @jake_kmiecik L, Bx Photos are in this order: Becky Mahay & Neil Campbell Ashtray Navigations Naycha Somko Tyvek DJ Travella Tyvek in Leeds Momento of the night
