Our Free Community Space Program serves as a hub for artistic and cultural activities that further work around anti-sexism and equality. This space offers a safe and inclusive environment for rehearsals, film shoots, workshops, performances, exhibitions, screenings, and community gatherings. Fees for space in New York City can account for the majority of an artists’ budget and can often be a barrier to creation. By offering this resource free to the community, we are able to remove this financial barrier and create opportunity for artists and community leaders who align with Bechdel Project’s mission. To date, we have hosted hundreds of community members and donated $20,000 worth of time in our space. Our space includes access to our entire equipment closet and parent inclusive amenities. Welcome to @bechdelproject Headquarters! Bechdel Project is a feminist non-profit located on the top floor of a 1930s potato chip factory now operating as artists’ lofts in the heart of Greenpoint's TV & Film studios. When we’re not busy dismantling the patriarchy, we love to host fellow creatives in our space. The studio is 800 Square feet of blank space featuring raw and industrial loft elements such as: 12' ceilings with wood beams, vintage windows, exposed/white washed brick walls, and ample natural light. The western facing windows catch the sun perfectly in the early evening making "golden hour" in this studio especially beautiful. Located at the northernmost part of Greenpoint, Brooklyn the 3200 square foot rooftop offers AMAZING views of the Manhattan skyline, Queens, and Brooklyn.
