Every step was for the teenage mothers in Gomba District — girls aged 13 to 17 navigating motherhood before they’ve had the chance to just be young. They deserved someone showing up for them. So I showed up. But I didn’t expect this run to show up for me too.
Actually running this 5K completely broke a mental barrier I had about myself and what I’m capable of achieving. Pushing through something as tough as running as a complete beginner taught me that you can do it — your mind just wants to fool you otherwise. There are walls we will all face that feel permanent, voices that tell us we are not enough. But the limit is rarely what we think it is. May we never forget we are capable of so much more than we believe.
