We first began exploring this story out of curiosity about Navy SEALs and psychedelic treatment. But as we met the people involved, we realized the film was about something much bigger — a deeply human journey that ended up changing us along the way, too. The IN WAVES AND WAR filmmakers and participants worked closely with the animators at @studioaka to represent their psychedelic-assisted journeys through memory and trauma. IN WAVES AND WAR is now streaming.
One of the biggest challenges for IN WAVES AND WAR was figuring out how best to represent the experience of Marcus, DJ, and Matty undergoing their Ibogaine treatments. We worked closely with an incredible team of animators at StudioAKA in London to create these sequences. They blew us away with their attention to detail and how seriously they took representing each experience in the most authentic way possible. And now the team has received a Cinema Eye nomination for their work! Huge congrats to them. And of course, so grateful to our film collaborators, Marcus, DJ and Matty, who made themselves so vulnerable in sharing their stories, and what they went through during the treatment.
