Renovations are underway at 1726 East Hastings St. on a new, 40-bed shelter for people experiencing homelessness.
Having safe, accessible shelter in a community means fewer people sheltering outdoors, increasing personal safety and well-being and contributing to greater community safety overall.
The shelter is anticipated to open later this year and will be operated by Lookout Housing and Health Society. It will include indoor common areas, washrooms and laundry facilities and provide connections to employment, health and housing support services.
This project is an important part of our ongoing work to address and prevent homelessness in the community.
Thank you to our partners the @cityofvancouver and @LookoutSociety for #ComingTogether4Housing
Today, BC Housing recognizes Moose Hide Campaign Day.
The Moose Hide Campaign is an Indigenous-led movement that began in B.C. to help end violence against women and children.
Everyone deserves to feel safe where they live. We stand with Indigenous leaders and communities to help end gender-based violence. By learning, listening, speaking up, and acting, we can all help build safer communities.
Today, BC Housing employees are wearing moose hide pins as a symbol of this commitment. It’s one small way we show support and our shared responsibility to create respectful, safe spaces, at work and in the communities we serve.
