In the early morning hours, a collective of artists and rock climbers, hung a Palestinian flag measuring 6×10 meters on the Branické skály (Braník rocks). The action is a symbol of solidarity with the Palestinian people, who have been facing a devastating Israeli offensive, loss of homes and lives for almost two years.
“We want to draw attention to the fact that the Czech Republic continues to actively support the Israeli regime, which systematically commits war crimes including ethnic cleansing of the civilian population. Our political representatives at best do not respond to appeals from individuals and civic movements to reconsider their support, at worst they silence critical voices and prevent even simple discussion on this topic. Therefore, we decided to draw attention to it differently – by disrupting the course of an ordinary day,” stated the artistic-activist groups in their declaration.
“We decided to follow the actions of climbing groups that enrich their climbing expression around the world’s crags with statements about the unbearable situation in Gaza. Both climbing and art share the ability to go beyond boundaries. Those geographical ones are firmly closed for the inhabitants of Palestine, so by hanging the flag on Braník, we wanted to momentarily overcome the boundaries of sport and thus ask the Prague population for much-needed solidarity in a symbolically hard-to-reach place,” add the authors of the action.
The action joins a wave of similar interventions around the world. In the Alps, climbers as part of the “100 summits for Gaza” initiative hung Palestinian flags on mountain peaks, in the French Alps on Aiguille du Dru, in the USA the collective “Climbers With Palestine” unfurled a giant banner with the words “Stop the Genocide” on the El Capitan wall. Murals (Belfast) or public space installations (Paris, Barcelona) are also appearing in European cities. These images of solidarity have become a visible symbol of resistance against genocide and remind us that remaining silent is no longer bearable and is immoral.

🧱 No~one Is an Island – audiovizuální příběh rozkročený mezi videem, animací a hudební kompilací.
🧱 Kolektiv BCAA system je uměleckou platformou pracující na poli audiovizuální kultury. Vytváří širokou multidisciplinární síť prezentující se výstavami, hudbou, koncerty, webovými kanály. Obsah a formu jejich prací ovlivňuje nejen svět umění a postklubové hudby, ale i game design, tvorba 3D prostředí, biologie, ekologie, filosofie či sociologie.
🧱 Ve svém videu BCAA system předkládá vizi budoucnosti na pozadí příběhu mezidruhové spolupráce, upozadění role jednotlivce ve prospěch celku a společného nalezení cesty ze zdánlivě bezvýchodné situace: „To, že jsme všichni (to znamená i nelidské druhy) prakticky stejně ohroženi, může sloužit i jako podnět k tomu začít o naší pozici ve světě uvažovat mnohem šířeji a uvědomit si naše propojení s okolím.“(BCAA sytem)

She is writing a PhD on xenopoetics at the University of New South Wales, where she also teaches and lectures on Creative Writing and is co-convenor of the philosophy and aesthetics research cluster 'Aesthetics After Finitude'. Her research focuses on questions of agency and technology in modernity, and she is a member of the technofeminist collective Laboria Cuboniks.
Maya B. Kronic (they/them) is a recrypted iteration of a philosopher, and is Head of Research and Development at the publisher Urbanomic, which aims to engender interdisciplinary thinking and production. The Agent, patient, and product of ongoing research project on gender hyperstition and cute accelerationism.
