It’s Friday night here in Japan—how are you all doing? Today is Day 5 of my takeover. Only three more days to go until it ends. Today as well, I’d like to introduce another one of my favorite artists based in Tokyo. it’s Bashow Komatsu. Photo by:@bashow819 Curated by: @4ck_hendrix Continent of Expression Komatsu’s project “The Continent of Expression” is an attempt to capture not only the visible world, but also the invisible—those aspects we usually overlook. Prompted by revisiting his past work during the COVID-19 pandemic, he began exploring the world beyond the society he sees, using unique development techniques and multiple exposures to embrace chance and unpredictability. This series is a photographic travelogue—a journey in search of passages between society and the world, the inner and the outer, through the holes that photography can open. Curious? メゾンミハラヤスヒロさん @miharayasuhiro_official のフリーペーパー『DOIROBUTA』に、「表現の大陸」から数点写真を掲載して頂いてます🏴 年に2回、パリコレに合わせて出版する大判のアートフリーペーパー。三原康裕さん @miharayasuhiro プロデュース、後藤繁雄さん @shigeogoto キュレーションです。 今号は「パラレルユニヴァース」と題して、ポスト・シュルレアリスム時代における、AIと人間による再魔術化としての表現に焦点を当てています。 先日の個展のトークショーでも、魔術的というワードやデュシャンの4次元の話が出たりして、個人的にもずっと根底にあるテーマです。このようなタイミングで企画にお誘い頂きとても嬉しいです🙏 巻末の後藤さんのテキストを読むと文脈への理解がぐっと深まるので、一部引用させて頂きます。書影と合わせて是非チェックしてみてください✔︎ ________ 昨年2024年は、アンドレ・ブルトンが『シュルレアリスム宣言』を著し、「革命運動」を開始してから100年後のメモリアル・イヤーだった。それが奇しくもAIによる生成画像が現実を覆い尽すタイミングになったのは、感慨深いものがある。ブルトンが運動沈静後の1957年に企てた『魔術的芸術』は、古代呪術からシュルレアリスムに至る「マジカルなアート」を集め、「もう一つの美術史」を書き直す野心の本だが、今見ると古色蒼然に見える。原始美術から素人画家、アウトサイダー、神秘主義など正規の美術史が取り上げないアートを蒐集しつくしたことは、ブルトンの業績ではあるが、もはやシュールはハリウッド映画やCMのクリシェに成り下がり、すでに「革命」はない。 一方でデュシャンはブルトンに「魔術とは何？」と問われた時に「アンチ・リアリティ！」と答えたという。デュシャンは4次元に注目し、賢明にも脳の認知を使って別の現実にシフトすることを考えたのだ。それは現実を超える絵空事を描くのではなく、高次元的な思考や変成意識こそがリアリティのアップデートであるという予感だったろう。シュルレアルというコトバは、100年後、マルチヴァースやパラレルユニヴァースというコトバに上書きされてしまった。とりわけAIの進化は、人間の出来ることを問い詰める。しかしAIによる画像生成は、今のところ不完全であるが故に面白い。AIは人間の無意識に生真面目に直面して、無理やり画像生成するからだ。さて一方で、人間はどんな「再魔術化」で現実を超えるのか？
