This weekend I got to hang out with a lot of great people who love to do what I love to do, got to see Ron Lynch perform in a garage and then did his sound cues for him, and got to spend some fun time in a place I once called home. Here’s a pic from my first mic at Big Fish Vapor Lounge in Arcata back in 2018. I started comedy during the most difficult time of my life - It’s my hobby now and I love it but I really only started because of profound sadness & loss. It’s weird (and often cringy) to hear my old sets from back then. Just as it will probably be 5 years from now listening to what I do currently. I’ve always made an effort to record open mic sets. I feel like this is the main reason I’ve had any progress… It’s really simple but writing things down I think are funny, recording it at a mic in front of a crowd, and then being brutally honest with myself when I listen to it after… For me it’s the only way I know if something is actually funny or if I was delusional in the moment This past Saturday I did 60 minutes for the first time - doing an hour was a goal going into the evening but only if people were still engaged. It felt good in the moment. I wasn’t grasping for material or just throwing stuff in. I went into the night with a plan and after listening to the recording it was funny. Not perfect by any means but definitely something I can hang my hat on. I love the local comedy scene in Humboldt and all of the friends I’ve made that live all over the country The biggest ❤️ to Chris and @savagehenrycomedy - without you there would be no Baseball ⚾️ 🦇
