Thank you so much to everyone who came out to the first Kangaroo Court last night! Truly could not be riding a better high right now. The comics who came absolutely crushed and the audience brought great energy and gave what they needed to make it an amazing show! Please keep an eye out, because if all goes well, there will definitely be more of these in the future and we’d love to have you there. Thanks to @nicos.wines for having us and to everyone who made it such a wonderful time. Until next time…court is adjourned!

Yesterday Sascha and I went to the whitest restaurant in LA because one time she told me that she liked to have scones with clotted cream, and this was the first place I’d ever heard of that offered those. Then they brought out our scone and Sascha said, “That’s a biscuit.” And I said, “Well they call it a scone on their menu.” And she said, “It’s a biscuit.” Then I said, “Baby, Brits are dumb. To them fries are ‘chips’, chips are ‘crisps’, cookies are ‘biscuits’, and apparently biscuits are ‘scones’. They’re just a bunch of colonizers who don’t know anything so they just go around stealing other people’s shit and calling it all by the wrong name. Little did I know a woman so British she may as well have been Prue from GBB was sitting right behind me the whole time. I don’t think she heard me because her ears were too full of tea and crumpets. Anyway, Wilde’s was honestly pretty great. The only thing we ordered that I wasn’t thrilled about was the quiche. Other folks might like it, but I found it to be a little muted and mostly just tasted salt. All jokes aside, the scone (biscuit) was my favorite, with the sausage roll and porridge trailing close behind.

LOS ANGELES—One week from tonight Christie Bahna and Alec Cole will be debuting a comedy show unlike any other, and this lineup is a damn dream! Come see Ever Mainard, Curtis Cook, Nthenya Ndunda, Alexa Loftus, Smaranda Luna, and Vince Caldera like you’ve never seen them before. Kangaroo Court is an interactive show where standups tell stories about doing things that are illegal OR things that aren’t illegal, but probably should be. At the end of the show, the jury—YOU—will decide who is the most innocent and who is the most guilty. This show is FREE and starts at 8PM. Wednesday, March 11th at Nico’s in Atwater. See you there!

In 2025 I bought a camera that I’d been wanting for years, and I definitely feel like it was worth it. These are some of the favorite photos I was able to take with it.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ The year was filled with a lot of trips. Many to different countries, some to different states and cities. One was of the psychedelic persuasion. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ All of them were filled with beauty and joy, and balanced with some degree of suffering. All of them had wonderful people and moments and tastes and sights and smells and emotions that I feel extremely lucky to have experienced. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ While much of this year was filled with horror and grief, I feel very grateful for all of the love and mirth that came as well. I’m grateful for the new friendships I was able to form and old friendships I was able to give time to. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Today I enter 2026 feeling grounded and looking forward to what things come next. Confident that it will be another combination of joy and suffering, facing it with the certainty that the former will be worth the latter and that I’m lucky to experience both, because both are reminders that I am in fact alive.

On my 18th birthday I found out that even if I got into NYU, there wasn’t any way my family would be able to afford it. My parents made just enough money that I didn’t qualify for financial aid, and had just enough living expenses that what they could afford wouldn’t have even made a dent in the school’s astronomical tuition costs. At one point I tried to make a case for student loans, but I was the first in my family to go to college, and taking out what would basically be a mortgage didn’t seem like a smart way to begin my early adult years. The amount that it scared them scared me. The whole thing just felt like a kick in the dick. A blow to my ego. And a sign that New York didn’t want me there. 8 years later I was set to take a trip there with one of my best friends (Sarah) to visit our other best friend (Molly) who was living in Brooklyn at the time. Our flight to JFK was set for March 13, 2020, and instead I found out that I had COVID that day and the world shut down. In November of 2022 I had another trip with a different best friend (Miles) planned. A few months before, he told me he couldn’t swing it after all. Since splitting the hotel was the main way I could afford to go, I also had to call it off. But this year, finally—days before turning 32–I made it! I got to eat NY pizza and NY bagels and ride the subway and drink martinis and explore the city I’d dreamt of during so much of high school. And it was everything I’d hoped it would be. Plus, I got to do it all with my incredible, beautiful wife and her friends! And now, I sit here typing this, feeling nothing but gratitude. Honestly, feeling a sense of completeness. Like something I’d lost is slowly making its way back. Who knows 🤷🏻‍♂️ All I know is that it’s hard not to love my life when I’m constantly eating wonderful food, in entrancing places, surrounded by great people. There’s a lot about the world that breaks my heart, but these are the things that keep me from losing all hope ❤️

Another year in the books! Fun times in Humboldt County. Grateful for all the friends and places I’ve come to love up in these parts over the last decade. Over the past couple weeks I got to see people I lived with in my years going to school at HSU as well as buds I don’t get to see because they live across the country. As much as things have changed, it still holds a special place in my heart. Excited for all of the new friends I made this time around. Til next time! ❤️
