💡 Gait analysis in clinical practice 💡
🚶 Based on current literature, it is clear that many athletes after ACL reconstruction still show subtle changes in their gait pattern, even after returning to sport. These alterations are often unnoticed with traditional gait analysis methodologies in clinical practice.
📈 In this video, I am visualizing the knee flexion/extension angles of an athlete after ACL reconstruction using @model_health_biomechanics at our clinic @motiontobalance . The full line in the graph is the right knee, the dotted line represents the left knee.
🫵 What do you observe? What are your thoughts? Which leg is the injured leg?

💡 Movement analysis 💡
📹 In this video you can observe 2 180° turns (left and right) during a 5-0-5 test of the same person.
▶️ I visualize two angles in this analysis:
✅ Lumbar rotation: Defined as how the torso moves relative to the pelvis in the transversal plane. Positive rotation occurs when the torso rotates leftward.
✅ Pelvic rotation: Describes the twisting of the pelvis around the down–up axis. Positive rotation occurs when the pelvis rotates to the left.
🤔 Note that this 3D movement analysis was done in our clinic @motiontobalance , capturing videos with 2 iPhones, using the @model_health_biomechanics system. Markerless movement analysis in clinic can be game changer in the future of physical therapy.

🔥 Last Wednesday, I had the privilege of speaking at the @soccerdoc10 ft @vald_performance conference at the iconic stadium of PSV Eindhoven in front of more than 160 professionals passionate about football medicine and performance. The topic of the conference was “Assessment in Action: Using Technology for Rehabilitation & Performance”.
🗣️ My 45-minutes presentation focused on assessment and monitoring for rehabilitation of multidirectional athletes. I shared practical insights on how we can better translate objective data and innovations into meaningful decisions that truly support rehabilitation and performance progression.
🙏 What inspires me most is the incredible feedback I received afterwards. The conversations, questions, numerous e-mails, messages and shared experiences remind me why I’m so passionate about this field.
🎯 My goals are simple:
✅ To bridge the gap between research and practice.
✅ To make science actionable.
✅ To create real value for clinicians, coaches, and most importantly the athletes we serve.
✅ To create impact in the field.
✅ To inspire other colleagues.
🙏 Thank you to the organizers @nick.vanderhorst@xander.decorte.vald@else0612 and everyone who attended. Grateful for the opportunity to contribute and already looking forward to the next one.
🤝 Good to catch up and learn from the other presenters as well!

😳 Oh my quad! 😳
👉 Quadriceps activation can be a real struggle after knee injuries. Did you know, that this impaired activation of the quadriceps is not just because of doing less, but rather a reaction of your nervous system?
🧠 Targeting this nervous system inhibition requires targeted interventions. This video shows the added value of using biofeedback to visualize the muscle activation.

Multidirectional athletes are rarely limited by just one “weak link”.
If you rehab field and court athletes, you know how often deceleration, cutting, and change of direction expose gaps in control, timing, and confidence.
In our in-person course Rehab of the Multidirectional Athlete, you’ll learn practical tools you can use immediately:
• how to assess movement quality without overtesting
• how to build progressions for cutting, pivoting, and landing
• how to dose strength + plyos + return to sport the smart way
If you want to feel more confident with complex athletic rehab, this course is for you.
Comment “course” and we will send you the direct link to sign up.

🔥 Teaching mode 🔥
👊 Great day in Zwolle (🇳🇱) delivering a one-day course for an enthousiastic group of physiotherapists of the ACL Network Zwolle.
🎯 We focused on specifically on the transition from mid- and late-stage gym training to on-field rehab, with a strong emphasis on preparing athletes for multidirectional speed and agility work.
🙏 Thanks to everyone who joined for the great energy, sharp questions and shared passion for better rehab.

🥳 10 years PhD 🥳
🎓 Exactly 10 years ago, on 25 September, I completed my PhD! Still proud with this big achievement!
📈 Hard to believe that this is already 10 years ago, but time flies when you’re having fun!
👊 Looking back now, it was not just the end of a journey, but the start of so many new adventures.
🙏 I’m grateful for the people I’ve met along the way, the projects that challenged me, and the moments that shaped both my career and myself.
🚀 Here’s to the next 10 years of curiosity, passion, and pushing boundaries!

We asked @bartdingenen what advice he would give a physiotherapist who’s just starting out, and wants to develop their coaching eye.
But we’re curious to hear from you too!
What helped you sharpen your coaching eye in the early days?
