Did you know that more deportations take place in Texas than any other state? 1 in 4 ICE arrests happen in Texas. Texas recorded an average of 176 ICE arrests per day.
Here in Austin, Governor Abbott held millions of dollars in funding for community services hostage until the city of Austin agreed to ICE enforcement which Austin residents overwhelmingly do not support. That’s not democracy, that’s extortion. Abbott threatened to withhold approximately $200 million in state public safety grants from Houston, Dallas, and Austin in April 2026 to force changes in their local policies regarding cooperation with ICE. The money Abbott threatened to withhold helps communities who are suffering and in need. How dare he? That’s intentional infliction of pain and undue suffering upon our most vulnerable.
Every single day in my work as a hospital chaplain, I see suffering and inevitable pain. Matters of life and death make these deportation policies seem so incredibly unnecessary and just plain dumb. Why do we need to unnecessarily inflict pain when life is already so hard? Sitting with family members afraid to visit their dying loved one because ICE targets hospitals is one of the most evil things I have ever witnessed.

Are you domesticated? Wild? Tame? FERAL?
A domesticated animal cannot live on its own and relies on others for survival - it shops at grocery stores for food and gives its time to others for tokens to survive, pay rent etc. For example, domesticated dogs rely on humans for survival.
A tame animal, like a house cat, can tolerate humans or others but also knows how to survive on its own. Can hunt her own mice and still snuggle up on a lap.
A wild animal either cannot or WILL NOT exist with humans.
Now a feral animal - they my favorite 🫦 - a feral animal once was domesticated and relied on others for survival but now cannot exist with humans. Actively resists when trying to be contained or pet and will randomly lash out if you get too close. These silly geese may act like something’s jumbled up in the head - like maybe they’ve been electrocuted a few too many times by the hand that sought to domesticate them.
Perhaps in this time of absurdity - when those who seek to keep us domesticated despite acting against our interests, their own interests and even the interests of life itself - perhaps now we might get a little feral. Might grow our own food, might filter our own water, might sharpen our claws and just resist - resist a society of lies, resist everyday mundane dumb shit. Like a cat who’s been electrocuted a few too many times, let’s bite the hand that feeds us bb 🙃🃏
