she's a beauty✨😍 @barnbuilt_canada
sooo plans changed hahaha. originally, i was just going to use my stock RA motor at first for this build... but then I found a used 750 closed deck shortblock & some w25 heads on marketplace and jumped on it. Everything needed some TLC & love so I brought it all to @barnbuilt_canada to do what they do best. it's so beautiful.
the subie now has an @iagperformance 750 closed deck short block with @manleyperformance platinum series pistons & 1/2“ headstuds. I ended up building the w25 heads with @runbc 272 cams, inconel exhaust & stainless steel intake valves, bronze guides, titanium retainers, and new buckets. Also added the IAG comp series oil pan, oil pump, oil pickup, timing kit & breather fittings
now that this motor is done and ready to get put in, I can focus on building my stock motor…. just incase… because you know… ✨subaru things✨

Few months back during a conversation with @definitivetuning we all had the idea of putting together a test setup and see how far we can push a stock EJ257. Over the years we seen others pushing this platform well beyond the limits anyone thought would be possible. Definitive shop car just so happens to have a setup that has previously made 950whp and with the engine out of it anyway it was the perfect time to drop in a stock long block. We just happed to have some good condition used stock part for a long block on the shelves, so we put one together. The only modifications we made was to the short block. We opened up the rod bearing clearance a bit and gapped the piston rings for the amount of boost we were planning to run. Cylinder heads are a set of good used W25 that we cleaned up, gave it a hair cut and set valve lash on. Brand new OEM head gaskets and head bolts were installed. The long block was then installed in the car and we filled up the tank with E85. After a few runs we ended up finding the limit and to our surprise it was not the rods or the rod bolts. Once we started to get in to the 40psi range and 8000 plus rpm, the valve train was just not able to keep up. We were able to make 750whp and 510wtq with right around 42psi of boost. At this point we just stopped going any further due to valve float. The engine still runs and sounds perfectly fine and we think it could make even more with some stiffer valve springs. Perhaps a set from an EJ207 as those are significantly stiffer compared to the USDM ones. Or by adding more oxygen to the fuel and being able to keep the boost down and the stock springs happy. Please note that this doesn’t mean you should just put a very large turbo and E85 on your stock engine. This may or may not even last a 1/4 mile once it’s off the dyno.
BarnBuilt EJ25 Stage 3+ is our top of the line Semi-Closed Deck short block. Featuring Manley Platinum pistons 8.75:1 CR and H-TUFF +2mm rods, ACL Race Bearings, OEM Crank, diamond honed with deck plates to 99.75mm as well as dynamic balanced rotating assembly to 10k rpm.
EJ25 Darton Sleeved short block we built for @beard_and_boost 07STi Rally Car. @rogerclarkmotorsport high compression forged pistons and @manleyperformance H-TUFF Rods were used in this build. Of course 1/2in ARP head studs and Athena Cooper Ring head gaskets will be going on to keep the heads in place.
