The
@mana.arts.co Co-Founders
@isabellamoore_ and
@baritonebenson were honoured to perform this Samoan pese, “Lota nu’u” in Matakite: A Prophecy, curated by
@lyallhakaraia (
@interislandcollective ), at the
@britishmuseum ~15.05.26~
Matakite explored kākahu as taonga — garments that carry ancestral knowledge, connecting people and land, past, present and future. Bringing together Māori and Pasifika artists and designers from across the Pacific, the collection reimagined fashion as living storytelling: transformative, multifunctional, and deeply rooted in culture.
As they walked with their ancestors, the evening’s soloists offered performances in their honour:
@johnnyaroha ,
@chasethesunbro ,
@waimarama.tb ,
@matau.tp ,
@keriratapene ,
@braxtonteriini ,
@sanitenor_sings , Benson Wilson, and Isabella Moore.
Ngā mihi nui to the extraordinary designers who brought this collection to life:
@ulanamakaha ,
@stuffbyseener , Te‘okota‘i Paitai, Whaea Rae,
@randalltextiles ,
@momoe.ink ,
@kapahawaii ,
@lanuenaenajaq and lead designer, Lyall Hakaraia.
Heartfelt thanks to the models, performers, stylists, hair and make-up artists, photographers, filmmakers, production team, interns, and institutional partners who brought this powerful kaupapa to life.
