“WhEre aRe You From?!” Living in the UK, I get this question so much and tbh most of the time I really don’t mind. But sometimes, it can be annoying and problematic af. Especially when people think it’s fun to guess my ethnicity 🥴 This zine is special for a few reasons, it’s the first zine in a while that I made completely by hand. I even had to go down to the local warehouse stationery to get photocopies done!Secondly, I made this zine whilst visiting family in NZ and it felt funny to make a zine about people asking where I’m from…in the country that I’m actually from. Life isn’t linear - - - / -\ _ _ / - - - - I have had many joyful things happen this year. But also a lot of tears, disappointment, rejection and deviation from my “path” Some things happened that way I wanted to and some didn’t. It’s ok, but it doesn’t always feel that way. Especially as we come to the end of the year, where we’re made to feel like everything should be wrapped up nicely, ready to start anew on January 1st. We had a blast last night at the opening of 'Secret Maps' a brand new exhibition we contributed to at The British Library. It was so great to see the folx weve been working alongside with for several months from @chocolatefilms and @britishlibrary and seeing our film for the first time in its new home. It is really cool to have our small film amongst this incredible collection from all over the globe. Thank you and congratulations to everyone from Chocolate Films and TBL that we met and worked with along the way, especially @halkaline who was brilliant and so thoughtful throughout the creating process. A special thank you to @king___ra and Deb Rewiri. 🌱Some moments captured from last weeks 11th Oct National march for Palestine 1 day after the declared ceasefire and marking the last two years of relentless bombing, killing and starvation of innocent civilians. 'Two years of Israeli attacks have killed at least 67,000 Palestinians. Thousands of other people are still under the rubble. At least 20,000 children are among the dead, or one child killed every hour for the past 24 months. The Palestinian Ministry of Health counts deaths based on people brought to hospitals or officially recorded. The true number is unknown and is likely much higher because the official death toll does not include those who perished under rubble or are missing. The human toll of Gaza’s war extends beyond the dead. More than 169,000 people have been injured, many with life-altering wounds. Life had been a ride these past few months but last week I had my cup filled to the brim at the annual @tekiteki.pasifika_official . 🍬 Ula Lole 🍬 [ ooh - la - law - lee] Alongside presenting the Samoan village we held a workshop for our pacific community teaching them how to make ula lole. This is the zine that participants could take home with them to try make their own ula lole for their loved ones. What a blessing it is to be able to share these moments with other pacific people so far away from our homelands.
