Don't miss Barefoot's fully staged version of Scarlatti's dramatic 1690 oratorio, La Giuditta, the story of a besieged city in tribute to all besieged cities.
The production features three superb singers: Ralph Thomas Williams, Toshi Ogita and Ella Joy, joined by our great MD Laurence Panter at the keyboard and bass clarinetist, Kathryn Titcomb.
Artist Jane Bruce, a long-standing collaborator with Barefoot Opera, will be creating magical visuals.
The production is supported by Hastings Jews for Justice - there will be a collection for Friends of Al Mawasi, Gaza, with which Hastings has a formal Friendship Link.

I don’t believe in singular perspectives and want to create a space for people with lived experience of infertility (does not have to be current or have a medical diagnosis) pregnancy loss or those who are childless to connect and share in a safe, creative space.
You don’t need any previous experience in the creative arts- I’m a highly experienced and inclusive facilitator and will guide you gently through the afternoon… there will be no pressure at any point.
If you want one you will be given a credit for your contribution to the show and offered a free ticket to one of the performances

Movement leaves traces - traces we perceive as audiences, and traces in our bodies.
Understanding our movement is vital to singers at all stages.
Join movement expert Alexandra Baybutt and vocal coach Jenny Miller on Sunday March 1st for a one-day course - Enriching Personal Practice: The Integrated Singer.
We will work in detail with a small group of advanced/professional singers to locate more potential to move, change shape and dramatically improve quality of sound and expression as classical singers.
How can we find freedom of movement, freedom to compress and release air, and freedom to physically shape character within the framework of a classically produced sound?
We will be singing and moving as a group and individually. Bring one aria that presents technical, emotional, or imaginative challenges, and expect to work on phrases and extracts rather than presenting your aria formally.
Alexandra Baybutt is a Registered Somatic Movement Educator, Certified Movement Analyst, post-doctoral researcher and artist. Jenny Miller is founder and director of Barefoot Opera.

The original Schubertiads were intimate musical gatherings, often taking place in private homes and providing the perfect showcase for Schubert’s latest compositions, as well as the opportunity for the most talented musicians of the day to shine.
Barefoot's Schubertiad updates this wonderful tradition in the ideal setting of The Uplands, recreating a salon atmosphere and offering guests a glass of sparkling wine and the chance to relax by a blazing fire in the living room during the interval.
