We’re winding down the semester but wanted to make sure we get another BardNYC Internship Spotlight in before the semester ends! Read more about Milahn from Reed College below ⬇️ Hello, my name is Milahn Williams, and I’ve had the privilege of studying at BardNYC this semester! I am a junior Psychology major at Reed College in Portland, Oregon, and a fun fact is that I’ve been learning how to rollerskate! I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California, and have always had a love for city life. When I found out about BardNYC through my college, I knew I had to do it. It was the perfect mix of academics and professional development, all through the backdrop of New York City, which is one of the greatest cities on Earth. 🌎 One of my major highlights from my time here is definitely my time at my internship. I was so fortunate to intern at the Center for Global Mental Health at The New School, whose missions and values directly align with my goals of making mental health resources available to all and limiting stigma surrounding discussions of mental health. I was able to work with so many amazing people and students, and it has certainly been a life-changing experience for me. Additionally, I’ve loved being in New York City, where there are constantly new things to do. Some of my favorite things have been going to the Noguchi Museum, Prospect Park, walking the Williamsburg Bridge, and vintage shopping at 10ft Single. Furthermore, I have loved eating at Phayul in Jackson Heights and Titi’s Empanadas 🥟in Williamsburg. For a sweet treat, I would go to Kora in Sunnyside, Queens, for their donuts and Brooklyn 🧁 Cupcake in Williamsburg.

Welcome back to our BardNYC Internship Spotlight! This week Khrystyna talks about her experience so far! Read more below ⬇️ Hey, my name is Khrystyna Herasymchuk, and I am a third-year Economics student at Bard College. I am originally from Lutsk, Ukraine, and first came to the U.S. as a high school exchange student in Indiana. I’m really interested in peace and security, and I’m currently interning at the Institute for Economics & Peace, where I help with outreach and building partnerships. I chose Bard NYC because of all the incredible opportunities it offers—both professionally and personally. My favorite spot in Williamsburg is definitely the waterfront. I highly recommend grabbing a snack from Trader Joe’s, heading over there for sunset, and just hanging out with friends while you debrief about your day :) I also recommend checking out the Jubilee Marketplace in Greenpoint and trying their seafood and 3-dollar burgers!🍔

Welcome back to our BardNYC Internship Spotlight! This week Anna talks about her experience so far! Read more below ⬇️ Hi! My name is Anna, I’m a junior at Bard College and I study Economics, Math, and Finance. I am from Ukraine and I chose BardNYC because I think this is the perfect program to explore the city while doing internship and study here in Williamsburg. I love that the area here is very safe which makes it a great place for running. The highlight of my internship would be the people I have met there who inspire me a lot. One food recommendation that I think everyone should try is Mango Mango Dessert, they have locations all over manhattan and their mango desserts are truly the best! 🥭

We’re back with an update from Maksym! Once of the core elements of @bardnyc is the internship experience. To learn more about Maksym’s internship this semester, read more here ⬇ This semester, alongside studying at Bard NYC, I’ve been interning at the Mission of Ukraine to the United Nations. As someone from Ukraine, this work is deeply personal. I wanted to understand how international institutions respond to conflict—not just in theory, but in real time. My day-to-day has included attending UN meetings, tracking discussions across committees, taking detailed notes, and helping synthesize key takeaways from negotiations and briefings. I often follow how different countries position themselves and how those positions evolve over time. My favorite part has been attending Security Council meetings. They are one of the few spaces where global tensions are visible in real time—where diplomacy, power, and narrative all collide. Listening to statements from different member states, you can see how each country frames the same issue differently to serve its strategic interests. One moment that stood out was realizing how even small wording changes in resolutions can carry major political weight—sometimes shaping how a conflict is understood internationally. Through this experience, I’ve strengthened my ability to analyze political messaging, follow fast-moving negotiations, and connect broader geopolitical dynamics to specific policy outcomes. Being in New York made this possible—and reinforced why I chose Bard NYC in the first place. Looking forward to continuing this work and sharing more along the way.
