Getting dropped by all my sponsors at 15 then moving to the north shore, to making the tour, leaving surfing to train and fight professionally to opening my own gym.
I am supposed to be in jail, a drug addict or dead but I have been blessed in my life and am trying to give back as much as has been given to me.
Never a victim to circumstances & my decisions is my destiny.
A few things I touched upon at today’s talk to the 10th grade Hawaiian immersion students at Kekaulike. I’m speaking about my journey in hopes of cultivating the community I want for my children. Sharing about mental health, substance abuse and perseverance, showing vulnerability and humility for the kids like me who needed it the most when there was no one around to do it. Don’t let insecurities hold you back from your potential for being a positive influence to those around you.

Andy was my big brother, hero and friend. His surfing has transcended beyond the surf world but his heart of Gold is what us closest to him remember the most.
