Miguel writes in our journal about one of our most recent and exciting projects: @zumbidobooks , a gorgeous bookshop specialising in illustrated books that also hosts a small cafe. It is in Matosinhos, just a few steps from our dear @mercadosmunicipaisdematosinhos #matosinhos #bookshop #specialtycoffee

Small things, big changes. A visual tale about how we helped Tiago rethink his Hakko House, a small cafe and restaurant in the heart of Bombarda, Porto’s Art District. When we started, early this year, there were many questions to be answered. How do you connect more with the local crowds? How can we improve processes, be more productive and lower the prices? How can you have a consistently delicious offering, from lunch menus to takeaway pastries and coffee? How to seat more people and improve comfort at the same time? How to make it feel like home? After four working sessions, Tiago immediately introduced small improvements to the restaurant. The most visible happened last week, with a total reshuffle of the restaurant layout, finding more seating space, bringing the bar to the front, and opening the massive window to the street. It took just a few days for the once almost invisible cafe to transform the end of Rua do Rosario into a vibrant spot.

How we designed a new website (and a bit more) for the bookshop that marked a generation of politically engaged readers. Founded in Porto in 1963, during the Estado Novo dictatorship, UNICEPE began as an act of cultural and intellectual resistance, and a place where books, ideas, and discussion could circulate despite censorship and political repression. When Unicepe commissioned @_estudiooficio to redesign their website, our challenge became clear very quickly: how do you build a contemporary website for a space with such a strong history, without losing the character that made it special in the first place? The result was a layered, tactile visual system inspired by protest graphics, publishing culture, and early-web aesthetics, reimagined into a contemporary platform designed to evolve and last over time. Swipe to take a look at the design process, and follow the link in our profile to read the full case study and learn more about the project. #webdesign #graphicdesign #visualidentity

In March, we had two full houses at @osaberfazer for the first TransparencyChain training sessions!  The training focused on digital marketing: building a brand narrative, creating a consistent online presence, promoting products, and setting up a successful online shop. We covered all of this using practical tools that can be put into practice from day one, even for those who were new to digital marketing. In addition, participants were introduced to our blockchain platform, which allows them to document and certify the entire production chain of their products. An easy-to-use, intuitive tool that, when combined with a well-thought-out digital strategy, adds value to products and builds greater trust among consumers, in line with the current Digital Product Passport policies. Participants are now exploring the platform, with guidance and support from the trainers, entering information about their products, materials and suppliers. If you are a craftsperson or raw materials producer and are interested in these topics, you still have the chance to take part in this training! We have two new dates in June: on the 17th, an online session, and on the 18th, an in-person session at Saber Fazer in Porto. Registration and further information about the programme are available on the project website through the link in our profile.

We brought our community together at @osaberfazer for one conversation around food politics, agro-ecology and education. We traced the journey of food from local producers to the table, and asked a simple but uncomfortable question: what do our food choices really cost? We invited Snider Rodrigues @snyder9 and Monika Błoch @wonder_cookie from @venncanteen , Pedro Rocha @pedroagricultorurbano from O Quinto Elemento , and @ana_helena_pinto from Nutrition for Happiness , for a conversation moderated by our dear friend Sofia Ferraz @sofia.plantbased from @tasteology.pt and one of the masterminds of the fabulous @portocoffeeweek . This event is part of TY-CO, an initiative built around the @abrfest community, with activities and events running year-round in Nicosia (Cyprus), Porto and Lisbon. You can see the photo gallery by visiting the link in our profile. TY-CO is funded by the Creative Europe Programme from the European Commission.

@barbotbernardo and @osaberfazer will be hosting another @creativehubsnet peer-to-peer week. @dortedejesus from @thelissome (Berlin and London) will be back in Porto next week for an intense programme of studio visits, learning and conspiracy. Thursday (May 7) at 5 pm, we will host the Soil to Story roundtable. Our friends Paula Nabais (heritage scientist and mastermind of the ERC Scarlet project), Margarida Antunes and Pedro Mota (@vaivemvaivem publishers) will join us for a conversation about craft, how the past can inform the future and the role of independent publishing in telling the right stories. The entrance is free, but you need to email [email protected] to reserve your spot. The roundtable will be in English.

When @_estudiooficio was commissioned to design the Heritex Toolbox visual identity and website we asked ourselves: How can we create a flexible visual system to communicate and make legible thousands of years of textile history, without feeling like an old, dusty archive? You can read how we designed the visual identity, learning tools, the website, and the editorial objects of this essential tools for researchers and fashion and textiles practitioners by following the link in our profile. #visualidentity #graphicdesign #textilefibres

@_estudiooficio has been contracted to lead the visual and communication strategy for ERC SCARLET, a European Research Council project led by Heritage Scientist Prof. Paula Nabais at the Departamento de Conservação e Restauro, NOVA FCT. SCARLET will reconstruct historical dyeing recipes, characterise them and make that knowledge accessible — integrating chemistry, history, and heritage science. Last week we met Paula and Márcia Vieira at the NOVA FCT campus to kick off our collaboration: for the next three years, we'll be responsible for the project's visual identity, communication strategy, graphic and editorial design. #ERCScarlet #EuropeanResearchCouncil #NaturalDyes #Textiles #HeritageScience #ResearchCommunication #ConservaçãoeRestauro #NOVAFCT #GraphicDesign #EditorialDesign
