How many angels can fit on the tip of a needle, and how many images on the tip of a light-sensitive cell in the eye? In her paintings, Michaela Hromadová depicts motifs gathered from her own worldly stay in this weird era of banal yet fascinating visual clutter. Within it, her eyes seem drawn to what is fallen, images that have slipped from the heavens of “good taste” or simply seemed unworthy of a “distinguished” gaze. At the same time, with a particular ability to oscillate between naïvism and a sense for realism, Michaela embraces the theatrical spectacle of camp aesthetics as well as the rewarding sense of scandality it brings. The vulgarly straight forward artworks presents various depictions ranging from fantasy inspired tribute to epicly heroic frogs to mundane transgression of a fascist latte art. Here, the vulgar means both “offensive” as well as “folk”in the sense of accessibility and a certain flatness of representation.

Kolik andělů se vejde na špičku jehly a kolik obrazů na špičku světločivné buňky v oku? Ve svých obrazech Michaela Hromadová ztvárňuje motivy z vlastního pobytu v podivném prostředí všední a přesto fascinující změti vizuálních podnětů. Její pohled přitahuje vše, co je “padlé” – obrazy, které sklouzly z výšin domnělého dobrého vkusu. Zároveň Michaela s lehkostí osciluje mezi naivismem a citem pro realismus a přistupuje na teatralitu campové estetiky i na odměňující pocit pohoršení, který s sebou přináší. V těchto často přímočaře „vulgárních“ obrazech se objevují motivy sahající od fantasy inspirované poctě žábám až po banální transgresi v podobě fašistického latte artu. V tomto kontextu není nutné „vulgární“ chápat pouze jako urážlivé, ale i jako “lidové” ve smyslu srozumitelnosti a významové přístupnosti.
