ON THIS DAY — March 9, 2012
Oakland collective @bangdata released La Sopa, a debut that bottled the Bay Area’s cross-cultural energy into 14 tracks of Latin rock, cumbia grooves, and synth-heavy alt-dance. Built on Deuce Eclipse’s bilingual vocals and the band’s electro-acoustic rhythms, the record fused club energy with street-level songwriting.
Local buzz quickly spread beyond the Bay when the band’s single “Bang Data” later landed on Breaking Bad, giving the group a national spotlight. More than a decade later, La Sopa still stands as a snapshot of the Bay’s hybrid sound—borderless, bilingual, and built for the dance floor.
