Wow thank you so much to @melanie.yugo @jasonskilz @possibleworldsshop and the entire @objectprojectartbookfair team for putting together such an incredible art book fair this weekend in Ottawa! We had so much fun and met such inspiring people, attended some great panels and workshop, caught up with dear friends, and loved it all 🥰. I felt shy about taking photos of people’s tables for some reason or also thought I had taken photos of things but just imagined it in my head, but here are some photos I did actually take: 1. @jasonskilz DJing at the after party at Ten Toes Coffehouse & Laundry 2. @jasonskilz and @melanie.yugo the incredible organizers of the Object Project Art Book Fair 3. The Object / Project team having a group photo taken after the fair ended on Saturday evening. 4. An image on a flat screen of an artist book in the shape of a Jamaican patty by yuki kéké tam @yukitam_ who was leading a workshop titled “Epistolary Episodes: Letter-writing as Art Analysis”. 5 and 6. Photos of yuki kéké tam presenting the workshop and facilitating discussion. 7. A text-based slide on the screen at yuki’s workshop. 8. A view of the garden with the @bouquinistemobile project and music performance space being set-up. 9. Mel Yugo, Jason Skilz and Jamie Northrop at pizza dinner at Pizza Nerds on Friday night. 10-13. Photos from the panel, Holding it Together: Building + Sustaining Collective Publishing Projects, with Jonathan Rotsztain and Jon Iñaki (Pulping), Rita Godlevskis (photoED Magazine) and Izzy Poirier and Ariane Bédard (Ottawa Design Club)., moderated by Benjamin Woo. 14. yuki’s table at the fair. 15. Our B &D Press table 16. @yukitam_ and @spicybabycrab Le Lin after the fair. 17. Folks from the fair at the after party at Ten Toes.

We are super excited to have had our second zine launch’s poster placed as part of the immense Palestine Poster Project Archives. Our ongoing project was inspired by the archive, created and collated by Dan Walsh. He reached out to the lab to let us know, and we hope to have many of the postcard sized art created in workshops and in and out of the lab, archived on the PPPA website in the new year. Special shout out to our fave collaborators @banddpress , the flyer designer extraordinaire @setilism , our vitrine leader and Constellation member Marcela Torres Molano, and zine collaborator and Surrounds member @melinda.pierrepaul . Link to the PPPA entry in our bio. Until liberation, it remains, from the river to the sea, Palestine will be Free 🇵🇸

This book will be making its first public appearance at Volume Art Book Fair @volumemtl this weekend, Oct 4-5 at Casa Italia, 505 Jean Talon East. 11 - 6 pm. Free admission. It’s a book of polymer plate relief prints, printed on a Vandercook Press at Concordia U, of drawings and text drawn with a laptop track pad. It’s a narrative, sort of, about people coming together and gathering after a long period apart, and gathering as performance and protest and also looking towards uncertainty as a focal point. The narrator is addressing a deceased person, and grief is a character or atmosphere or both… or interpret it yourself by coming and looking at it at Volume at the @banddpress table. Eloisa @hello_elooooooooo and I will be there with other B &D Press titles, too. ID: 1. A perfect bound book with a brown paper cover and a title, The Day of the Great Procession, and squiggly lines printed on the cover in white ink. 2. A copy of the book with red ink on cover 3. A video of flipping through the book from back to front. 4-10. Some process photos including 4. the pages laid out on a table for collating, that show black ink images and text printed in cream-coloured paper. 5. Relief polymer plates on a platform on the press bed, with black ink on them. 6. A group of polymers plates with images exposed and processed onto them. They are yellowish plastic plates with image areas elevated and blank areas recessed. 7. Plates in the yellow dark room. 8. The images for the book compiled together onto a long transparency printed from a large format ink jet printer, showing the images and text as clear and the surrounded spaces in black ink. 9. The book that is being bound and the spine reinforced with thread and mull (a strengthening material). 10. The book block (book without the cover attached), with focus on spine after excess thread and mull is trimmed off.

Scenes from our third session of Hypercolour Futures experimental publishing school Session 03: A Book as Theatre: Queer Gestures of Resistance with @banddpress // Jenny and Eloisa shared their practice grounded in experimental queer art publishing, discussing the multiple layers of resistance, particularly in the queer community, examples of puppets, resistance and performance, and the importance of gestures as "unofficial" records passed between generations. Participants were invited to envision and share scenarios related to resistance and learned to build 3D tunnel books as theatres, with accompanying puppets figures and text. Many thanks to Jenny, Eloisa and everyone who joined us! // Next Hypercolour Futures session is Thursday August 14 on Reimagining Institutions: Publishing as a Civic Practice - register through link in bio // #experimentalpublishing #artisttalk #workshop #bookastheatre #gesturesofqueerresistance #queerresistance #banddpress #tunnelbooks #artasresistance #queerartists #paperpuppets #queerpublishing
