I’ve known Oddy since around 2016, and I’m thrilled to see his progress since he started deejaying and making music. Not many people in the electronic music scene here are doing what he does today. From researching his signature sound production with the ‘dog dog’—a traditional instrument from the area of Garut, West Java—to touring the whole island of Sumatra with his own live set, I don’t think there’s another DJ or producer in Indonesia doing the same thing with the strong DIY ethos. From the beginning he asked me to do a remix around 2022 I never thought it would also be my very first music work pressed on vinyl. With the stream of information that is easy to access, and regions no longer being barriers to sharing your creativity, we need this energy to keep fueling the so-called ‘scene’ that we are all a part of. As a very proud friend, I feel humbled to be a part of this project. I also hope that this year, those of us who still love doing this will put more effort into pushing ourselves to create and do more. Unpredictable yet intentional, his sets reflect a deep love for boundary-pushing sounds from both the past and the future. Kiwed approaches sound from another angle entirely, as a DJ, researcher, and archivist. Through her project @dentum.lab , she explores underground histories, traditional recordings, and experimental sound practices, connecting past, present, and speculative futures through audio. Last year at FERMI × HANGOVERS, their first public b2b revealed a different side of each other: curious blends, shadowy low-end, and groove-heavy momentum that built slowly into pure release on the sand floor. Thank you to @butter_sessions and @msyawish for inviting me to contribute to the series. I’m really happy with how this mix turned out, it feels like its been a long time since I put together something with context behind it. The opening is “End the Occupation” by Atone, followed by “Melted Vision” from @hendrarnrm . Why these two tunes? First, I think we all agree that attacks on civilians wherever they happen and whoever carries them out, whether by a state or an armed group are clearly wrong and violate international law (or any law, I believe). Second, “Melted Vision” is, to me, a tune that can be considered timeless (made around 2006 i think) in the realm of electronic music, made by a producer from the city Im from. I also want to thank RA for selecting this mix as Mix of the Day @nyshkachandran Beyond those two points, the sound selection throughout this mix comes from my inspiration into electronic music connected to / originating from my hometown and my best friend. I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed making it. ❤️💚🖤🤍
