What you do for yourself becomes a gift the moment you share it. Bady doesn’t believe in time capsules. He prefers to embrace what exists now, keep very little, and let go often. For him, the real miracle is simple: you make work for yourself, then someone chooses to give you their time, to look, to listen. That moment of sharing turns a private practice into a collective gift – no glass box, no future promise, just the present. Share this with someone whose “private” work feels like a gift to you. Episode 38 live now. 🎧/ch/podcast/forward-moves/id1786840601?l=en-GB&i=1000755137258 📺https://youtu.be/MOY2oDDxwmk?is=GhDOkdbhbhKQTL0I #creativity #dubai #middleeastcreatives #art #middleeastcreatives

📚What if history wasn’t fixed, but edited – and you could intervene? 🤔In art school, one class changed everything for Bady Dalloul: realizing that art history is a point of view – not a neutral truth. 🖼️From Byzantine art to colonial archives, he saw how a story is constructed, and how a young student can claim space to tell another version. 📍Ep.38 dropping tomorrow

I met Bady Dalloul, a French-Syrian artist, a few years ago in his studio in Paris, and I’m delighted to continue the conversation today during this MASA Talks session on the theme “Artists as Archivists.” Together, we will explore the relationship between archives and artistic practice. Through his work, Dalloul invites us to question how history is written, creating a dialogue between archives and fiction, imagination and reality. We will journey through his practice—from the first notebooks he created with his brother in Damascus to his recent exhibition “Self-portrait with a Cat I Don’t Have” at Jameel Art Center (curated by Lucas Morin), along the way his experience in Japan. Join us today ! 3pm CET - Zoom Link in @atassifoundation bio 1- Ever Given, Ever Waiting, 2023 2- Discussion Between Gentlemen, 2016 3-Self-portrait with a cat I don’t have, 2023 4- BADLAND, Vol. IV, 1999-2004 5- SCRAPBOOK, 2015 6- Installation view, Bady Dalloul: Self-portrait with a cat I don’t have, Jameel Arts Centre, 2025. In Bady Dalloul’s intimate, two-space exhibition at Jameel Arts Centre, his first institutional show in the UAE, the viewer is invited to step inside the artist’s world of personal memories, fictional tales and empires, and observations of the world he lives in. He explores the themes of migration, personal and collective histories, as well as the concept of home. One part of the show displays his detailed pieces, aesthetically similar to comic strips and Japanese manga, whereas in the other part, @badydalloul has built an invented home, decorated with old-school objects, taking the viewer back in time.  Words: @byrawaatalass “Self-portrait with a cat I don’t have” is running until February 22 at @jameelartscentre . #whatson | Tap into an immersive story at #jameelartscentre with @badydalloul ’s solo exhibition ‘Self-portrait with a cat I don’t have’. Rather than a traditional gallery setup, the exhibition is staged as a lived-in apartment where the artist’s work lives alongside a bed, a wardrobe, and a bookshelf. This relatable setting allows visitors to engage with the art through a familiar lens, seeing how narratives of home and belonging are woven into the very objects that surround us. Dalloul’s storytelling relies on the creative repurposing of found materials and everyday ephemera. Curated by Art Jameel Senior Curator Lucas Morin (@luuuluuuluu ), the exhibition is staged within a domestic apartment setting, where Dalloul’s intricate works are juxtaposed with everyday furniture to create a relatable narrative of home and belonging. This presentation marks the second chapter of Dalloul’s nomadic ‘Land of Dreams’ series, following its debut at the @moriartmuseum , Tokyo (2024–25) and preceding its upcoming show at @camgulbenkian , Lisbon, in 2026. Discover more by watching the full film via the link in our bio. The exhibition ‘Self-portrait with a cat I don’t have’ is on view at the Jameel until February 22, 2026.

Next Tuesday I will be exhibiting my work ‘Discussion between gentlemen’ (2016) 9’30 within ‘That Same Hour’ an important and beautiful group show opening at Darat al funun, Amman, Jordan. My video is about anonymous pairs of hands drawing and erasing what seems to be fantasy nonsensical borders until complete dislocation of an antique 1920 map of the Near East. A reminder of what happened nearly a century ago in a drawing room somewhere in Europe, and continues to have indirect consequences on today’s Near East. In That Same Hour Tuesday 18 November 2025 | 6:30 PM Featuring nineteen works by artists and collectives from Jordan, Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, South Africa, Spain, Puerto Rico, and Algeria, this exhibition takes its cue from the worldwide solidarity that has rallied around Gaza over the past two years. In recognition of the global dimensions of what is unfolding, it reaches across borders and positions, inviting collective engagement with the central questions of this moment. The exhibition extends throughout Darat al Funun’s spaces, with works displayed in The Main Building, Al Ghorfa, The Blue House, and The Lab. To read more about the exhibition, visit the link in bio. * Poster Image: Nathalie Frankowski & Cruz Garcia (WAI Architecture Think Tank), Monuments to The Victims of Capitalism, 2023.
