Hello! We are Rebecca + Craig Demeter, two Portland wood and fiber artists, and Backseat Window has been our creative collaboration for over 10 years. Our original woodburned, rayon-flocked acrylic paintings have a cosmic 70s vibe and a velvet feel. Our artwork is bright and soft, exploring themes of consciousness, perception and connection with the natural world. Every wooden piece we make is created from reclaimed lumber. In fact, our entire collections of handmade magnets and ornaments are made from recycled Christmas trees! But what exactly is woodburned velvet art? First, we woodburn our designs by hand on repurposed wood panels. Next, we add colors to our designs with acrylic paints. Last, we flock each color of our designs individually with richly pigmented rayon fibers. The end results are textural, multidimensional paintings that are soft to the touch and to the eye. We are so excited to be vending at Urban Craft Uprising’s Annual Summer Show in Seattle, July 27th & 28th at Magnuson Park Hangar 30! In addition to our wood and fiber paintings and magnets, we will be bringing a large assortment of giclée prints, postcards, and vinyl stickers of our original velvet artwork!
