Portland artists, we’ve been working on something for you 💛 A while back, we asked the community to help us start gathering art events around the city. We had a great amount of submissions and were able to build our calendar from that while our Instagram post served as a temporary holding space. While those early shows and markets have already come and gone, we can now finally say the Portland Art Events Calendar is officially live! This is a shared space to find upcoming shows, markets, openings, and pop-ups — and to add your own. Just TWO DAYS LEFT to see Outside by Keith Z!Friday/Saturday 1-6pm this week and that’s it! Don’t miss the chance to come see these amazing portraits and to read the stories of these beautiful humans. Outside by Keith Z is a collaboration with Portland’s homeless community, combining photography, social work, and storytelling in order to create a better understanding of that community. The work features portraits of community members, environmental photographs of the circumstances in which they live, long form interviews with individuals, and stories about those who are gone. All of the photos and stories are made in collaboration with community members, with full consent and knowledge, based on trust, relationships, and shared experience.   Outside establishes proof of life for community members who are willfully ignored by family, friends and larger society. Both the images and the storytelling focus on thehuman dimensions of an existential, life threatening struggle that are often eschewed in favor of more sensational fare. This work provides space to become intimate with community members they might never have known, the hope being that with better understanding comes better fellowship and better solutions.   Keith Z lives, photographs and reaches out to his community in Portland, Oregon. A recovering addict and alcoholic who was homeless himself for some years, lived experience informs his work. Incredible art from @demianasokun.art came through our shop to be scanned, printed and framed and we couldn’t believe our eyes that we were looking at a ✨pencil drawing. ✨The hair and clouds are especially mind-blowing.
