We’re pleased to share a few images from Dew Point, a recent residency by artist Kirsty Lowry @lowrymoth whose practice explores the elemental conditions of place as an influence on, and marker of, psychological state. Kirsty’s intensive week-long residency turned Back Lane West into a temporary studio, filling the space with the evoking earthy scent of grass, dampened for use in weaving. Knot by knot a series of netted structures slowly grew, the artist’s hand twisting together fibres gathered from various sites of personal and ecological interest. The works will continue to be formed over the coming months, so look out for more information on the upcoming exhibition at @auctionhouseart later in the year.

RESIDENCY OPPORTUNITY We are pleased to invite expressions of interest from contemporary artists for applications for a month’s residency for this coming June. This residence is offered free of fee with the support of Redruth Town Council. In recognition of this we are looking for artists that are interested in providing audience engagement / participation during Murdoch Day on Saturday 13th June. We’re looking for artists eager to test ideas, challenge their practice, and activate the space. Whilst we are not necessarily looking for projects associated with William Murdoch, (who lived in a house adjacent to Back Lane West) proposals that recognise particular qualities of the locality, be they historic, social, geographic, architectural etc, would be of particular interest. If you’re interested, please send a short expression of interest and your website to: [email protected] We can’t wait to hear from you! @discoverredruth #redruthtowncouncil #murdochday #contemporaryart #backlanewest #redruth

Announcing our next resident: LowryMoth: Dew Point LowryMoth @lowrymoth is the studio of interdisciplinary artist, curator and educator Kirsty Lowry, in residence at Back Lane West for the first part of a new project Dew Point. The dew point is part of an unnoticed but continually shifting elemental state that significantly influences ecological balance. The title is a nod to the artist’s enduring fascination in the elemental conditions of place as an influence on, and marker of, psychological state. For Dew Point, Lowry is spending an intensive week at Back Lane West, 20 – 26 April, marking a return to the familiar landscapes of her upbringing in Cornwall, working with locally sourced natural and found material to create a series of handmade netted structures that will form part of an installation to be presented at Auction House later in the year. Open Studio: Sat 25 April, 11:00 – 16:00 Drop in to view the work in progress, with a chance to turn your hand to some of the processes involved in using plants as fibre.

✨✨PAID RESIDENCY OPPORTUNITY ALERT✨✨ As part of our ABC project we are offering a two-week paid residency opportunity during March 2026 at CMR Project Space. Please note that accommodation is not provided, but studio space is free. The £500 fee covers the development of a project that engages new audiences in Redruth, helping to connect new people with CMR and reach audiences it may not currently engage with. Please email your CV along with:💌 A project proposal (up to 300 words) Your artist statement (up to 250 words) A short statement (up to 200 words) explaining how this project links to your practice ✨✨DEADLINE: 31st January 2026✨✨ Please send all information to [email protected] If you have any questions, feel free to email us. ABC is a collaboration between three Redruth-based, artist-led project spaces: Auction House, Back Lane West, and CMR Project Space. Each organisation brings a distinct approach to contemporary art, united by a shared commitment to supporting artists and fostering critical dialogue. Through exhibitions, workshops, and events hosted in everyday venues - including shops, pubs, cafés, and the local library - ABC seeks to challenge perceptions of contemporary art, making it more open, inclusive, and relevant to a wider audience. The year-long programme began in May 2025 with Back Lane West commissioning Colin Robins’ portrait series celebrating Redruth’s diverse community 'Anthology of Rural Life: Redruth Pictures’ which was later shown at Auction House in May. Since then, ABC has delivered a series of informal interventions across the town including projects by artists Victoria Motika and Millie Tams, alongside a GIF-making workshop led by Rachael Jones at the Oxford Inn, and there’s plenty of activity planned throughout the final 6 of ABC ABC looks to remove the barriers around contemporary art. It’s not about art-speak or exclusivity - it’s about honest, accessible experiences shared with the people of Redruth. @feast_cornwall @auctionhouseart @backlanewest

Opening 5pm tonight at @auctionhouseart and @backlanewest Robert Good, Paul Laidler & Laura Rosser
Dialogues with Devices: The Space Between Human and Machine

Private View: Friday 5 September, 6-9pm
Open: 6, 12 & 13 September, 11 am - 3 pm (or by appointment)

Dialogues with Devices is an exhibition that examines our evolving relationship with technology. The artists Laura Rosser, Paul Laidler and Robert Good engage in dialogues with technology - whether through misadventurous interactions between old and new media, lo-fi interventions in digital data, or explorations of co-creation with AI. The artists’ collaborative work draws upon ideas of theatre, rehearsal, scene-building and scale to create a conversation between their individual practices, and opens a wider discourse around the technological imaginary. This experimental inquiry centres on the relations between ourselves as human entities and more-than-human digital technologies, which are increasingly encroaching into arenas once considered to be exclusively human; now shared, contested, reconfigured and surveilled.
