Hey, did you know that the Republican party is LITERALLY ON THE SNAP WEBSITE blaming Democrats' support for immigrants and transgender people (like me!) as the reason people in need are not getting the food they need? While building a giant ballroom with the money they stole out of the mouths of children. This message brought to you by your friendly baker bee. Spread the word
I'm packing things up into boxes again, and taking things off my walls. This note has been pinned above my door to remind me that I make a difference in people's lives just by existing in a way that makes me happy. The letter reads:
"I just wanted to say thank you. I've been listening to you play for about a year and a half now while I've been going to school at ________. About 6 years ago I started listening to Irish music because a few good friends introduced me to it and I fell in love. I went to college and minored in Irish music; started playing flute and tin whistle. 2 years ago I sold my flute and moved to Denver. I just graduated and started playing again because listening to you has inspired me to continue to follow my passion of playing. My friend that introduced me to Irish music so long ago just passed away and his funeral is tomorrow. Listening to you today has put my heart at ease a little bit with the impending sadness that is going to consume tomorrow. I can't begin to tell you how much you have changed my life and made it a little brighter. Thank you for bringing joy to this city. Thank you for making my day a little brighter. You are greatly appreciated.
❤️

I miss busking in Denver, and making my living at it, but I'll keep playing in public spaces here in the Monadnock region because it makes me happy. And, often, it makes other people happy too.

A couple hours worth of little pinch pots. I use my little tabletop wheel to support them as I'm pinching, and then to do a little bit of trimming. It doesn't have a motor, it's just heavy and has a good bearing so it spins forever.

I posted this already, but it's a free show! And if really our to see people I know there. Some classic contra tunes, but mostly things you won't have heard from us before. See you tomorrow (Friday) night!
We're playing a show! Garrett and I have been working on this for a while, and we have a special guest at the very end of the evening. Tunes and songs. Please come!
I thought I'd go out to the Harrisville Open Mic tonight and sing something. If you care one hair how this poor hare fairs, come have a listen. Starts at 7.
This song is (according to the Wikipedia article 🤷🏼♀️) written by James Molloy, and first recorded by Tunney in either 1944 or '45. I got it from the singing of Daoirí Farrell, who has a wonderful recording of it on YouTube.
Skiving the leather for a new bow grip. All round the edges, and then glued on overlapping the new winding I put on.
Video: fingers with chipped turquoise nail polish manage a chisel to cut a shallow angle into the suede side of a black piece of leather.
Image 1: the leather piece ready for glueing, all four sides skived, slightly larger than a postage stamp.
Image 2: the finished bow, with a black and white nylon thread winding and a new leather grip.
Turns out it works better when you start with a piano that hasn't been living in a storage unit for a year. Anyone have a piano in relatively good repair that hasn't been tuned in a bit? I need practice
Here at Aesop's tables in Peterborough. I'll be playing in the bookstore @toadstoolbooks from 3:30-5:30 today, for a bit of ambiance. Fiddle and concertina 😁
Make a mushroom? Make two. Two more? Um...earrings?
Image 1: two tiny felted mushrooms, with white stems and yellow caps, sitting on a pink hand.
Image 2: six mushrooms on the same hand. Two of these have purple caps with black spots, and yellow gills.
Image 3: eight mushrooms this time, on a tweed surface. The new ones are pink with white spots, and have earring hooks.
Image 4: your intrepid craft explorer (me!) looking into the camera with pink mushrooms dangling from their ears.
