Hello All, While we are still experiencing a gas interruption, we are going to open with limited services tomorrow, May 1st. There will be no showers or food service, but we will try to offer as much as we can. 🌿 Our hearts are full today. Thank you to the 30 incredible volunteers who showed up with gloves, grit, and so much love for our neighbourhood. Groundskeeping isn’t glamorous work, but watching our community come together made it one of the most beautiful things we’ve seen in a long time. Because of you, the grounds look the best they’ve looked in years — a real point of pride for all of us. And when we finished early, you didn’t pack up. You spread out into the neighbourhood and blessed our neighbours with even more clean‑up and care. That’s who you are. That’s who we are. We say it often, but today it feels especially true: We are a village, and we are so grateful you are our people. 🌎 Save the Date: Earth Day Clean-Up at Back Door Mission Saturday, April 18 2026 • 10 AM–12 PM As the snow melts away, it reveals all the little (and not-so-little) things our grounds need to feel cared for again. We’d love your help bringing some spring magic back to the Mission. 🌱 What We’ll Be Doing -Litter clean-up -Grounds tidying -Flower planting and refreshing our outdoor spaces 🧤 What to Bring Work gloves, rakes, garden tools, trash grabbers if you have them — plus closed-toed shoes and clothing that keeps you comfortable in the weather. 🌼 Want to Go the Extra Mile? Back Door Mission doesn’t have a budget for landscaping or beautification, so we rely on the generosity of our community. If you happen to have extra mulch, plants, soil, or other garden supplies, we’d be grateful to put them to good use. Come spend a couple of hours outside, doing something meaningful for a place that means so much to so many. Protein Needed for Our Meals Program Back Door Mission serves 150 hot, nutritious meals Monday-Friday, and right now we’re facing a shortage of protein for this week's service. To keep meals balanced and high‑quality for our community, we’re looking for meat donations—pork is the most economical option at the moment, but any protein is appreciated. If you’re able to drop off a donation by tomorrow morning, it would make an immediate difference for the folks who rely on us. 🐾 A Huge Thank You to The Ontario SPCA & Humane Society! We’re sending our heartfelt gratitude to the incredible team from the Ontario SPCA & Humane Society for visiting Back Door Mission and sharing their Pawsitive Packs with our patrons. These kits flew off the table in no time, and even after they ran out, the team stayed to offer guidance, resources, and information on how to access low‑cost and free services for pets in our community. Their compassion, patience, and commitment made a real difference for the people we serve — and for their beloved animals. We’re already looking forward to welcoming them back soon. Partnerships like this strengthen our community and help ensure that everyone, including our four‑legged family members, gets the support they deserve.
