The all-out analog FM from an ARP 2600 provides the undulating backbone of the track as it builds from a sparse soundscape into a momentum-driven dubbed-out techno number. ‘Tryptamine’ takes the listener deeper down the rabbit hole. One drop of this trance-inspired techno tune is enough to have you rendering sonic shapes and textures out of the ether. Let go and let the reese bass take you on your trip. ‘No Transparency’ welcomes you into its warm embrace – a soft melodic pillow for you to rest your head in. The hard-hitting 909 is met with a rolling bassline that builds towards a wistful reveal. Soaring pads carry listeners into an elated trance in this heady techno number. Close your eyes and experience complete catharsis with this one. ‘Knock It’ continues the release’s focus on groove and harmony. An eerie drone welcomes a drunken kick pattern before bursting into a chunky breakbeat-driven groove. Dan Only’s distinct rhythm locks in amongst a flurry of angular stabs and hoovers before being contrasted by lush evolving pads. Heavy and ecstatic all at once, this hard-hitting techno hybrid has been a secret weapon of his for years. ‘Blade Goes Deep’ rounds out the release as a deep, dubbed-out proto-dubstep roller. Built around an inquisitive chord stab, this tune starts in half-time before settling into its four-on-the-floor-driven groove. The shape-shifting drums welcome a warping bassline that feels right at home in this UK-influenced cut. In anticipation of launching my own label, @backbreaksrecords , later this spring, I wanted to give you all a little taste of what’s to come. Give the page a follow on Bandcamp and Instagram to stay up-to-date with new music and news as I unlock the Dan Only vaults and unleash one EP at a time. backbreaksrecords.bandcamp.com Some of you may recognize this tune. Dub Acid 2-3 is part of a series of explorations from the early days of my Dan Only alias. This one dates back to at least 2017. The rule for this series of tunes was that it had to contain a 303, and all other synth sounds needed to come from only one other synth. This particular tune was made using a Korg Polysix and the Cyclone TT-303. The 3rd slide is a photo of the humble beginnings of the home studio setup that this would have been written on. It’s a dubbed-out techno number that contains what is probably the best acid-line that I’ve ever written. Hope y’all dig it. PWYW on bandcamp, yall can tell me what it’s worth.
