Massively belated… but worth the wait.
Back in January I ran a music-industry focused sober coaching space and honestly, it was pretty special.
71 people downloaded the guide.
35 joined the group.
94% said it helped them move towards their goal.
But beyond the numbers ? It’s how people have told me it’s helped them that really counts….
Calmer nervous systems.
Less shame.
More self-trust.
More grounded & focussed
Growing confidence
More self awareness

And now we move forward…

Excited to share a very special episode of Back 2 Life in which Ben Lewis-DJ, producer, and one half of Make A Dance shares his honest, unfiltered account of his nine-year journey in recovery, reflecting on the challenges, trade-offs, and unexpected rewards of staying sober while building a global career in dance music.
I absolutely loved this conversation and know it will be incredibly insightful and inspiring to any sober or sober curious folks who are engaged with dance music, one of the key moments for me was Ben describing how the dancefloor has become his safe place since he found his sober feet 🕺🏽me too!
In this episode, we cover:
▪️Ben’s journey into sobriety and early recovery
▪️Navigating nearly a decade as a sober DJ
▪️Performance anxiety and playing shows without substances
▪️The realities of afterparties, networking, and “doing business” sober
▪️How relationships -personal and professional -shift in recovery
▪️The evolving relationship with music and creativity
▪️What sobriety takes away vs. what it gives back
▪️Identity shifts and rebuilding confidence in nightlife spaces
▪️Finding connection and community with other sober artists
▪️The ripple effect of sobriety on those around him
This episode was recorded as a live online session in the free sober Jan support group I hosted back in Jan, what a brilliant first session to have ☺️
Listen in all the usual places, and don’t forget to subscribe / follow, rate & review 🙏 and most importantly share it with a friend who may find it useful 🫂
Massive thanks to Ben for generously stepping and for all the wisdom he’s shared ❤️

As promised 10 lessons I’ve learned in 10 years of sobriety / recovery … part 2… and am still learning. More vintage snaps & a sassy baby pic at the end.
Was good to revisit these and I hope you find something useful here, let me know if anything hits with you ❤️🙏

I feel super proud and inspired by these 3 awesome humans I’ve had the pleasure of working with recently.
If you’re ready to let go of the things no longer serving you, and start living a full, creative, healthy and fun life that feels true to you, I’d love to help you do that.
Dm me or find the link on my bio x
Been wanting to share this for a while; a few of the many lessons learned over the last 10 years of sobriety / recovery( part 1 ) and still learning….let me know if any of these resonate with you?
Sending some hope & love to you all 🧡
Part 2 coming soon x

This morning @shanticeleste shared an amazing resource she’s put together for people with ADHD interested in changing their relationship with substances or exploring ways to manage adhd symptoms without medication / alcohol or drugs and kindly asked me to contribute some words.
I wanted to share this concept of low dopamine mornings that I shared in the doc - I’ve found it so useful in my own life ( even though I practice it imperfectly!) and have seen a big impact with clients who’ve tried it too.
It works. It’s free & can impact impulsivity & decision making so supporting a commitment to sobriety / moderation massively.
If you you try this, would love to hear how you get on 🧡

What an absolute pleasure & privilege to be invited to @internationalmusicsummit Ibiza to host the key note interview (ahem 💅🏼) and first ever live recording of @back2lifepod about the rise of sobriety in electronic music with the trailblazing @dj_paulette1 who so generously and warmly shared her own story -and pulled no punches 🥊
I loved hearing how Paulette has found her voice in sobriety, and stepped into her power even more fully. I’m so glad she has as she’s a massive inspiration to me and so many others and I feel truly grateful she was my guest for this.
A beautiful few days & many new friends made, thank you so much to the team for looking after us so well and to @blaisejames & @tensuhi for the invite to your beautiful @theartofarete / @alphathetaglobal space ✨🙏
The podcast will be out soon 👀
I’m really looking forward to hosting the first ever live recording of my podcast Back 2 Life at @internationalmusicsummit Ibiza this year with the huge privilege of having the iconic @djPaulette as my guest.
I only found out that Paulette was sober recently by chance when @daniwhylie insisted we should all go and chat to her back stage at Bugged Out Bristol as she’s such a bonafide legend. Later she asked why my (very sweet) friend @bex_dj had bought me flowers 💐 and when I said it was for my recovery birthday she told me she was also sober! Judging by how inspired we all felt after chatting to Paulette breifly that night - I’m sure it’s gonna be very lively, warm and fun as well as wise & insightful … and in such a special setting 🌅

The Rise of the Sober DJ: Rethinking Performance Culture
If you’re at IMS, come down and join us in the Art of Arête area.
If posting feels “cringe,” it might actually be vulnerability + nervous system activation.
You don’t need more discipline.
You might need more safety ❤️🩹
What happens in your body when you try to show up more?
And I’ll add a little reframe- We can look at posting online as cringe OR we can choose to see it as a powerful way we can tell our stories and share our most niche, unhinged passions with no gatekeeper approval needed?! P.S. I coach DJs, creatives and music industry professionals on letting go of patterns that no longer serve them, whether that’s using substances or playing small, I coach the whole person from a nervous system informed place and I’m currently taking on a limited number of new clients, if you’d like to book a free call to see if this could be a good fit for you, send me a dm or find the link in my bio- I’d love to meet you ❤️
*it needs to be bigger than the fear ( demonstrating showing up imperfectly in real time 🤣)
So excited to bring this project to life with @bdpcreativecommunities ❤️💫
From Tuesday February 17th I’ll be teaching a free beginners DJ course to a group of people in recovery from substance dependence at Bristols first sober venue @thearcbristol . It’s an idea that’s been with me for many years so happy that it’s finally happening and grateful to BDP creative communities for being so open & supportive 🙏
Applications are open now but limited to 8 places *so if you or someone you know are in recovery & would be keen you can register your interest at : [email protected]
It also begins 3 days before I celebrate 10 years of contunuious abstinence myself so a very full circle moment, as many of you know I started DJing whilst in recovery myself so feeling grateful for the opportunity to pass on some of what I’ve learnt 🙏
*edit this course is now full 🦋
If I had a pound for everytime someone asked me how I manage being at clubs and festivals every weekend COMPLETELY SOBER… I’d be an actual MillyonAire 🤑
The conversations I’ve been having in my coaching practice and on dance floors most weekends inspired me to make a free guide for the many of you I know are looking to either moderate or completely quit substances and still enjoy and work in nightlife- you can download it from my bio or by dropping me a dm.
And with January just around the corner, when you might be wanting to try a ‘dry January’ I’ll be offering a free, discreet community to help you stay on track… aimed particularly at those working in nightlife and creatives who want to actually enjoy the process and not just be counting the days. If this would be helpful to you download the guide & I’ll email you next week with more details.
Hope you have a great weekend 🧡
