Newdubhall, a label run by dub duo Undefined, which has been releasing experimental artists such as Kazufumi Kodama, Deadbeat, and Janka, will feature Babe Roots, a symbol of modern dub, in its 7th release. 2025年の第一弾、アナログだと7枚目となる10"は再びBabe Rootsの登場です。 発送は4月下旬と先になりますが、予約販売を開始しているのでぜひプロフィールリンクからチェックお願いします！ B面の"Roots"ではUndefinedのドラマー・オオクマがソリッド&タイトなプレイで参加しているのが素直に嬉しい 以下河村祐介 @futoru_ さんの素敵な文章もチェックお願いします。 〈Newdubhall〉、主宰のUndefined、各ソロのデジタル・リリースをはさみ、2025年最初のリリースとなるのは、同レーベルから約5年ぶりとなる、イタリアのアレッサンドロ・ヴェリーナとアンドレア・ペリーニによる、モダン・ダブ / ダブ・テクノ・ユニット、Babe Rootsの10インチのリリースとなる。2017年にリリースされた彼らのアルバム『Babe Roots』は、いまだにリプレスされ続けるロング・セラーとなっており、まさに現在のリズム＆サウンド以降のエレクトロニック・モダン・ダブを更新する象徴的な存在と言えるだろう。今回は、両面で〈System Music〉からの2021年のシングル「Through We」にも参加していたWayneのダブ・ポエットをフィーチャー。A面「Mi Feel It」はヒップホップ的なビートを配したダウンテンポ・トラック。B面「Roots」では、UndefinedのOhkumaのドラムをフィーチャーし、特に彼らのなかでもルーツ・レゲエ色が強いトラック。こちらはセネガル出身でイタリアを拠点に活動するシンガー、Galasの歌がゆっくりと空間をたゆたうなか、Wayneのダブ・ポエットが淡々と言葉を紡ぐコンビネーションとなっている。どちらもリリックには、1982年にリントン・クウェシ・ジョンソンとデニス・ボーヴェル・プロデュースでアルバム『Mi Cyaan Believe It』を〈Island〉から出しながら、キングストンで非業の死を遂げたダブ・ポエッツ、マイケル・スミスがクレジットされており（どちらの曲名も同アルバムに同名曲があり）、その作品へのオマージュとも言える内容となっているようだ。両面ともに彼ららしいモノクロームな質感の、ディープな空間が広がるダブ・サウンドを聴かせている。〈Newdubhall〉の招聘によって、2020年に来日が予定されていたもののコロナ禍の到来で中止となった。今年、来日が予定されている模様だ。（河村祐介 / 書籍『DUB入門』監修）

Dem Deya Sound System is glad to be back with another dub focused evening with Italy’s own Babe Roots. @babe_roots is an Italian production duo consisting of Andrea Perini and Alessandro Verrina, renowned for blending the hypnotic textures of Berlin dub techno with the deep, soulful rhythms of Jamaican roots and sound system culture. Their discography features releases on labels such as ZamZam Sounds, System Music, and Echocord. Known for immersive, bass-driven performances, the duo delivers entrancing sets that move seamlessly between meditative listening and raw physical power. Joining alongside the duo, is the sounds of DDSS’s own @du___ja . Having put in plenty of hours on the sound, Duja is his own craftsman of dubwise music. With recent collaborations with Jah Warrior, and an instant sellout tape on Defkon records, his style exemplifies the key elements in steppers reggae, dub techno, and jungle into sonic cohesion. Having hosted here before, this event will be held at GLOB, a space that has played a vital role within the DIY space. Hosting artists and events from all over the world, and over 2 decades in the game, this space is an example of how much art you can bring into a place by being community oriented, with a focus to bring people together. It is very sad to share news that Baba Ras passed away.🕊️ Sending love to his friends and family. We are thankful for the time we spent with him, those days in West London: in his flat, watching his cat weaving through the glasses while he was chanting some righteousness. His music will keep rattling the sound systems, and we will not forget his smile and light. We lost a real one. RIP 🖤
