Coming Back To Me is one of those songs that continues to layer new meaning over time. Five years ago, I found myself having a panic attack while alone at Point Lobos State Park. Writing this song quite literally moved me through it - I vividly remember experiencing spiritual catharsis as the words and melody spilled out, lowering my blood pressure, slowing my breathing, bringing me back to my sense of self. The song is a meditation on my lifelong struggle with anxiety, less as a declaration of some linear triumph, and more of a reminder to myself that when anxiety spirals, there is always a path to grounding.
Coming out of a 2025 in many ways defined by trauma and recovery, Coming Back To Me has taken on new layers of meaning. For many months, the lyrics āthese walls were build around me / the height and weight astounds meā described the physical confines of my apartment, the extreme limits to my mobility, and the impacts of all of this on my mental health, narrating my slow journey back to what I love most.
Now, as I am about to turn the page to EPHEMERA, my next musical chapter, I am honored to share the final piece of Treading Water that has been many years in the making: the official music video for Coming Back To Me. Directed by my incredibly talented friend
@b_sharp_dir , this conceptual piece explores my inner world through dance, movement, and memory.
